Two third-place teams meet in TD Garden as the Pacific Division Oilers take on the Atlantic Division Boston Bruins.
The Oilers are coming off a tough loss to the streaking Columbus Blue Jackets, while the Bruins were shutout against the Devils in their last game.

The Oilers are looking to bounce back after losing the last two games.
A decent team all year, the Oilers will look to make a push early in the new year and try to rise in the Pacific Division.

Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl continue to be the backbones of this Oilers squad and it’s been going really well for them.
Leading the league in points, McDavid has 43 points (14G, 29A). After a fiery hot start, McDavid has slowed down a bit over the last couple of weeks. In his last five games, he has two goals and one assist.
However, his presence in the center position makes him a threat every shift and opens things up for his linemates, which leads to more goals.
Draisaitl has been having a great year. He has 14 goals and 19 assists on the year. He’s been a complete player this season and, along with McDavid, has been a key member of the Oilers.
While he’s lacking in goals over the last five games, he does have three assists and has made his presence known.
Boston Bruins
The Bruins started 2017 with a 3-0 loss to the Devils after finishing 2016 strong with two straight victories. Boston will look to get back to those winning ways against Edmonton.
To do so, the solid Bruins defense will need to step up and play the way the 7th ranked team in goals against (97) should play. Boston has had a great year keeping the puck out of the net.
The team hasn’t allowed more than five goals in a game this season and has recorded four shutouts.
On the offensive side, 20-year old David Pastrnak has been wonderful. His 19 goals lead the team and he has seven assists to go along with them.
However, he has struggled as of late and hasn’t recorded a single point in his last five games. Boston will need him to snap out of this drought and contribute a point or two against the Oilers.

To beat Edmonton, Boston will have to play a complete game on both sides of the ice and find a way to keep Connor McDavid off the score sheet.
