Winners of four straight, the Edmonton Oilers head to Anaheim to take on the Ducks on Wednesday night.
Anaheim, coming off a 2-1 win over the San Jose Sharks, will look to continue what has been a solid season in the Pacific Division.
Sitting 2nd in the Pacific Division, it looks like the Edmonton Oilers are heading back to the playoffs this season. It’s been a consistent year for Edmonton on both sides of the ice.
Offensively, the team ranks 11th in the league in goals, averaging 2.90 per game. Defensively, the team ranks 10th in goals against, giving up just over 2.58 per game.
Led by Connor McDavid, the second-year captain, the Oilers have been fun to watch. McDavid leads the team, and the league, in points with 82. He has 25 goals and 57 assists this year, including two goals and five assists over his last five games.
His offensive help has come from a lot of places but one of the most impressive has been Leon Draisaitl. The 21-year old center has 24 goals and 41 assists, including a goal and eight assists over his last five games.
Left wing Patrick Maroon has also been impressive on the goal-scoring front. He has 25 goals along with 12 assists, including four goals and an assist over his last five games.
Also sitting 2nd in the Pacific Division with 87 points, this is a very important game for both teams because it will decide, at least for a day or two, who stays 2nd and who drops to 3rd. The Anaheim Ducks will obviously be looking to stay in 2nd.
Anaheim’s strong suit all year has been its defense. The team ranks 4th in the NHL in goals against, giving up just 2.47 goals per game. The goaltending of John Gibson has been a major reason for that positive stat.
Gibson sits at 23-16-8, not nearly as good of a record as one would hope for, but he’s been solid keeping the puck out of the net. He has a 2.28 goals against average and a .921 save percentage.
However, his status for Wednesday’s game is unknown as he deals with a lower-body injury.
Offensively, the team hasn’t been nearly as good. The team sits 20th in the league in goals scored, averaging 2.58 per game.
Rickard Rakell has been the team’s best scorer, putting up 31 goals and 12 assists, including four goals and two assists over the last five.
NHL Betting Trends:
- Edmonton is 4-1 ATS in the last five games
- Anaheim is 4-2 SU in the last six games
Free Edmonton Oilers vs. Anaheim Ducks NHL Hockey Prediction:
Edmonton has been great for most of the year and has one of the top players in the NHL in Connor McDavid. Against an Anaheim team that has been hit or miss throughout the year, the Oilers should have an advantage. Edmonton gets the W.
4* Free NHL Betting Pick: Edmonton ML
I actually like the Edmonton money line in this one, considering the team is the underdog in this matchup. The Oilers are playing better hockey recently than the Ducks and have one of the best players in the NHL in Connor McDavid. Edmonton will win this one.
