The Detroit Red Wings will travel to road island to to face the Islanders for the 3rd time this both teams have won one time this season and the away team has won the previous games season.
Detroit Red Wings
Detroit will come into Saturday on a 4 game losing streak their most recent loss came against the Seattle Kraken on Thursday in overtime. Of late the Red Wings have not been very strong, going 5-4-1 in their last 10 which has pushed them to 5 points out of a playoff spot. It’s now or never for the Red Wings season.
Offense
Looking at the Red Wings offensive stats its not a big surprise to seem them struggling they don’t score a lot of goals only 3 per game which is only good enough for 21st in the NHL, a big part of that is they don’t shoot much, only 28 shots per game which is only good enough for 29th in the league. Their power play doesn’t help things much as they have the 20th best percentage in the league. The Red Wings are also one of the worst faceoff teams in the NHL which means they are always trying to chase the puck.
Defense
On defense the Red Wings are a little bit better, but still below average in most categories 19th in goals against, 15th in shots against and one thing they really struggle with is the penalty kill, killing off only 77% which has them ranked 18th in the NHL
Goaltending
Goaltending will be a major question mark for Detroit on Saturday as #1 goalie Vinne Husso left practice early on Friday with a minor injury and won’t be available on Saturday. I can’t find a listed goalie anywhere for Saturday so I have no goalie info at this time. Keep an eye out for more info closer to game time..
New York Islanders
New York will look to bounce back on Saturday after dropping Thursday nights contest in Minnesota 2-1 in a shootout. The Islanders scored first but could manage no more offence throughout the game and then were stopped on all 3 shootout attempts meanwhile Gaudreau scored the winner in the shootout.
Offense
Offensively, the Islanders struggle, bottom half of the league in most of the main categories including goals scored which is ranked 24th in the NHL only scoring 2.8 goals per game. A big part of that is because of their power play has really struggled this season only converting at 16.9%.
Defense
Defensively New York has been a much stronger team, giving up only 2.6 goals per game and have the 7th ranked penalty kill at 82.5%. A big part of that is their goaltending play they do give up a lot of shots at almost 32 per game. .
Goaltending
Ilya Sorokin will get the start for the Islanders, has been pretty good this year, his win loss record isn’t impressive but that might not be all his fault. He supports a 2.37 goals against average and a great .925 save percentage. Sorokin has however lost his last 2 starts with one being in overtime.

Free Detroit Red Wings vs. New York Islanders NHL Prediction
This is an interesting game to make a pick for, you have both teams fighting for their lives in the playoff hunt so both teams should be desperate. I like the Islanders but don’t really wanna lay -200 so I’ll lean over here with Detroit missing their number one net minder.
