Detroit has lost four in a row as they head to New Jersey to take on the Devils. The Red Wings haven’t gotten a ton of breaks lately, but they get one Saturday when facing the Devils on the 2nd leg of a back-to-back.
New Jersey is in Pittsburgh on Friday night. The Devils will try to find an offense that has gone cold on them as of late but that will be tough to do with fatigue playing a factor.
Detroit Red Wings
The line hasn’t been released as of publishing time on Friday but it’s hard to imagine Detroit as an away favorite even if New Jersey is on 0 days rest. The Wings Detroit has just 3 road wins in 13 tries on the season.
The Red Wings also come into Saturday night’s matchup the losers of 4 straight. They haven’t gotten much on the defensive end over that span, allowing 13 goals in the last 3 games.
The Red Wings have won 4 straight in the matchup with New Jersey however – all as the underdog. Jeff Blashill’s team usually gets the edge over New Jersey in a low scoring game and the total should only be 5.5 in this one.

The Red Wings won by scores of 4-0, 3-2, and 4-3 in three games vs. New Jersey last season. The Devils offense is in a rut right now which would bode well for an ‘under’ play except for the fact Detroit has allowed 13 goals the last three.
At the very least Detroit has their #1 goaltender in net on Saturday night. New Jersey cannot say that as they put Mackenzie Blackwood between the pipes on Friday night in Pittsburgh. Detroit will likely face Louis Domingue.
New Jersey Devils
New Jersey has a fatigue disadvantage on Saturday and they also don’t get much of an edge being at home where they are just 3-4-4 on the season.
The Devils will also likely go with Dominigue in net instead of Blackwood. If it is Domingue, it will be his debut with New Jersey but he was 21-5 last year with Tampa Bay.
Domingue looked good with the Lightning last season, but he also had one of the best teams in the league ahead of him. The Devils are not that as they are last in the Metropolitan, already 18 points back from Washington.

Even so, a fresh start is a fresh start which should give New Jersey at least a bit of a boost as they play two games in two nights and 3 in the last 4. Plus, Blackwood has a save % under .900 on the year and just served up 5 to Boston in his start prior to the Pittsburgh game.
Speaking of sub-par save percentages, that’s what the Devils will face in Detroit’s goaltender Jimmy Howard (.883). He also allowed 5 goals in his last start and has given up 21 in 5 November starts.

Free New Jersey Devils vs. Detroit Red Wings NHL Prediction:
No matter what the line that oddsmakers go with, there will be value on both teams. You’re either backing Detroit vs. a team on 0 days rest or New Jersey – who is at home and against a team that has lost their last 4.
4* Free NHL Betting Pick: Under
New Jersey has been held to 2 goals or less in 7 of their last 8 games. Domingue is a wild card in his first game with the Devils but he was solid last season and Detroit isn’t exactly firing away on offense.
