The Stars have seemed to steady the ship in this series after going down 2-1 through the first 3 games of the second round. During that early rough stretch, we saw Jake Oettinger get pulled for the first time in the playoffs but the netminder has once again found his footing.
Dallas has won two in a row and have pushed the Kraken to the brink of elimination.
A concerning factor is that Seattle hasn’t used their home ice to their advantage this postseason. They have a great atmosphere and a crowd that won’t quit but have posted a lackluster 2-3 record at Climate Pledge Arena.
That being said, Seattle did have the fourth most goals on the season and could make this one an exciting contest.
Dallas Stars
The Stars have been playing to their strengths in this series. They’ve relied on their talented defense to drown Seattle’s attack and it’s shown. Through their three wins in round two, they’ve held the Kraken to an average of just 2.3 goals scored per game.
Dallas has a 3-2 road record in these playoffs and, as previously mentioned, are on a two-game win streak heading into Seattle.
Offense
The offense has been firing on all cylinders for Dallas with a goals for average of 3.82 while their power play is clicking at a 32.4% success rate.
They’re led by Roope Hintz who leads the team with 8 goals and 18 points through 11 games. Joe Pavelski is second on the team in postseason goals with all 7 coming against the Kraken.
While Jason Robertson has hit the scoresheet and is second on the team with 11 points, he has just two goals through 11 playoff games. It’s a bit curious as Robertson was head and shoulders above all Stars with 46 tucks. They say big players show up in big games and with an opportunity advance to the third round, could this be his coming out party?

Defense
The defense has been solid for the Stars, boasting a postseason goals against average of 3.00. That ranks second among remaining teams, which is the same for their penalty kill that has a conversion rate of 84.4%.
Goaltending
Since turning things around in Game 4 on the road, Jake Oettinger has been stellar. He’s allowed just five goals against over his last two game, adding to his 7-4 tally which is paired with a 2.65 goals against average and a .907 save percentage in these playoffs.
Seattle Kraken
It’s been said that the Kraken are essentially running four 2nd lines, meaning they don’t have any true stars. Don’t get me wrong, it’s served them well up to this point but when the chips are down, who can they lean on?
Jared McCann led the team with a solid 40 goals in the regular season but has just 1 during the playoffs. Could he still be feeling the ill-effects from that Cale Makar hit?
Look at their first round series with Colorado. In Games 6 and 7 of that series, they scored a combined total of three goals when they had the opportunity to advance.
They’ll need a whole lot more than that if they hope to survive another date with Dallas on Saturday night.
Offense
Up front, the offense has produced an average of 3.80 goals scored per game in this second round which is more than a full goal up from their output in round 1.
Their power play has been lacking big time in these playoffs after posting a 12.9% success rate on the man advantage. That marker is the worst among teams still in the playoffs and the third worst dating back to round 1.
No player is averaging a point per game or better, with Yanni Gourde leading the team with 10 points in 12 games.
Defense
Seattle is averaging 3.33 goals against per game which isn’t an alarming number. Their penalty kill has been great through two rounds as they’re just below the Stars with a 83.9 kill rate.
Goaltending
It’s still Philipp Grubauer’s net for now as he’s posted a 6-6 record combined with a 3.06 goals against average and a .903 save percentage through 12 games.

Free Dallas Stars vs. Seattle Kraken NHL Prediction
The over has hit in each game in this series and with the potential for Jason Robertson to break out here, I can’t see why that trend won’t continue.
Dallas has the most goals in these playoffs with 42 and who knows, maybe Pavelski can turn it up once again for another multi-goal effort.
I’m expecting the Stars to pound on the Kraken here and book a trip to the Western Conference Finals Saturday night.
