The Oilers are coming off a very tough loss to swallow where they gave up 2 goals in 7 seconds to the Devils who play with a crazy high octane pace and despite losing my bet and losing with my fave team it was the best hockey game I have seen all season so far.
They did not play poorly at all. The missed assignment on the go ahead was a brain fart by the defenceman not picking up Bratt, there was the Holloway turnover in the neutral zone, and then a flukey goal off what was soft d-zone coverage.
Unfortunately for the Oilers those three mistakes were costly except those were the only three mistakes they made all game, so credit to the Devils for capitalizing on them.
The Stars are coming off an absolute shelling of the Coyotes which isn’t a super impressive victory given the opponent but nonetheless this Stars team is hummin’ right now too.
I have not gotten a chance to watch the Stars yet this season so let’s dig into this one.
Dallas Stars
Jamie Benn has 8 points to begin the year which is better than his start last season and is a promising sign for the veteran who’s owner in recent seasons has called him out publicly for his lack of offensive output.
And the ageless wonder Joe Pavelski continues to dazzle at the rype age of 38. He has 5 goals, 5 assists and a plus 9 rating in 11 games to start this campaign and is a staple on the top line with Hintz and Robertson.
They’re also averaging 2.27 goals allowed which is perhaps more impressive especially after the loss of Klingberg to free agency.
Edmonton Oilers
As I said earlier the Oilers are playing some great hockey right now and that includes the loss to NJ last night. They obviously need to find a way to close those games out with the 2 points but I don’t chalk that one up to them as a bad game.
McDavid and Draisaitl are still on absolute fire and that trend shows no signs of cooling off anytime soon. They’re still juiced from getting swept by the Avs.
I saw them this year against the Flames in Edmonton, unfortunately they lost, but these two have a strut in their step that’s hard to put into words. They don’t just want points they want a cup. They need a cup.
I am not going to bet against this squad on the account of the way these two are playing right now until they go cold so we’re sticking with the trend after the loss to the Devils.

4* Free NHL Betting Pick: Stars PL +1.5 -165 & Oilers ML -165
Let’s middle this one. Both offences are sparked up to start this season and the Oil have the clear edge on that side with the highest end talent in the NHL.
But the Stars are hummin’ and Campbell is expected for Edmonton who despite having the nice record does not have the GAA to keep the Stars off the scoresheet.
I smell a tasty shootout tomorrow afternoon with fruity overtone notes of an over. Give me goals goals goals goals.
In 11 games played, Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl have combined for 46 points. Don’t bet against them.
Hammer the Stars puckline, the Oilers moneyline and the over.
