The Columbus Blue Jackets will travel down to Vegas to face the Golden Knights for the 2nd and final meeting between these two teams this season. Vegas won the 1st meeting in a shootout.
Columbus Blue Jackets
Columbus will come into Sunday looking to snap a mini 2 game losing streak. Most recent loss came against the Anaheim Ducks on Friday with a score of 7-4. Columbus is currently occupying the bottom spot in the league and are just looking for this season to end. They have their eyes on Connor Bedard and it will be interesting to see if they can get good efforts for the rest of the season.
Offense
When you’re sitting last in the NHL there wont be many statistics that you will look good in and that is the case for this team’s offence, scoring only 2.63 goals per game and only putting up 29 shots on target has them ranked 30th and 26th respectively. The power play does not help at only 19%.
Defense
Defensively Columbus is probably worse conceding 3.81 goals per game and a big reason for that is they give up a ton of shots at 35.1 per 60 minutes. Both of those categories have them ranked 30th in the NHL. Their penalty kill has been dreadful this season but has been on the improve of late.
Goaltending
Daniil Tarasov is listed to start in this one after Elvis Merzlikins left the team for personal reason. Tarasov has struggled this season going 3-10-1 with a poor 3.56 Goals Against Average and a .900 save percentage.
Vegas Golden Knights
Vegas will be coming into Sunday off of a very disappointing effort at home to the Calgary Flames. Vegas was outplayed for the whole 60 minutes being outshot 30-19 and losing 7-2.
Offense
The Golden Knights are kind of a team that has good statistical numbers in most if not all categories but none of the stats are that great. They rank in the middle of of the pack for goals scored, middle of the league in power play percentage and in shots on target they rank 10th putting 33 shots on target per game. One thing Vegas does excel in is at the face off dot, they have the 7th best face off win percentage, when you win that many face offs you can maintain the puck and generate offence much quick and more effectively
Defense
The Golden Knights defence is a little bit more impressive as they only concede 2.7 goals per game which is good enough for 8th in the NHL. I think a big reason of why they don’t concede a-lot of goals is they prevent the other side from getting a lot of shots on target at only 30.8 per game.
Goaltending
The Goalie situation for the Golden Knights is honestly a disaster, they have 4 injuries goalies. On the positive note they have Jonathan Quick who has. been good since moving from LA to Vegas, if he gets the call the clear advantage in the crease would be Vegas.
