Here’s why I’m backing a Colorado PL bet below in my Avalanche Jets free pick & gambling prediction for this matchup.
Avalanche vs. Jets Gameday
The Colorado Avalanche visit the Winnipeg Jets on Wednesday, October 7 at Canada Life Centre in an early-season Western Conference matchup.
Colorado enters 2-0-0, while Winnipeg is 2-0-1 through three games. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:30 PM ET.
Jared Bednar’s Avalanche have wasted little time finding their offense, with Nathan MacKinnon and Martin Necas helping drive a dangerous group. Scott Arniel’s Jets have answered an opening loss with consecutive victories. It’s early enough that nobody needs to start planning a parade, but both clubs have given their fans considerably more to enjoy than complain about.
Winnipeg likes making games uncomfortable, while Colorado has started the season making scorekeepers work overtime.
The Jets have been one of Colorado’s more stubborn Western Conference opponents in recent seasons.
That familiarity adds a little bite to an October game that otherwise wouldn’t need much help. Winnipeg will want to slow Colorado through the neutral zone rather than spend the night trading chances with the Avalanche.

Colorado Avalanche vs. Winnipeg Jets Odds & Last 5
Colorado opened as a -181 road favorite, with Winnipeg returning +153 on the moneyline.
The Avalanche were -1.5 at +137 on the puck line, while the Jets were +1.5 at -165. Bookmakers are clearly asking bettors to pay for Colorado on the moneyline.
Colorado opened with a 6-1 victory over St. Louis before beating Los Angeles 8-4. Winnipeg responded to its opening loss against Boston with consecutive 3-2 victories over Pittsburgh and Detroit. The Avalanche have been creating separation, while the Jets have been perfectly content collecting wins the stressful way.

Jets Stats
Winnipeg has scored nine goals through its first three games while allowing eight.
Kyle Connor has opened with three goals and five points, immediately putting himself back among Winnipeg’s primary scoring threats. Cole Perfetti has also produced five points during the Jets’ 2-0-1 start.
Adam Lowry continues to supply the physical edge down the middle, while the Jets have blocked 49 shots through three games. That willingness to get into shooting lanes becomes especially important against Colorado. Giving MacKinnon and company clean looks all evening is generally a fine strategy if the goal is to make your goalie hate you.
Avalanche Stats
Colorado has scored 14 goals through two games, giving Bednar’s club an explosive start offensively.
The Avalanche scored six against St. Louis and followed with eight against Los Angeles. Martin Necas, Nathan MacKinnon and Artturi Lehkonen have all contributed to the early scoring surge.
Colorado has also allowed only five goals despite playing two games with plenty of pace. That balance means the Avalanche don’t have to turn every night into a track meet. Scoring seven goals per game does make most coaching decisions look considerably smarter.
Colorado’s stars get the attention, but Winnipeg has more than one dangerous line to worry about tonight.
The early production has come from different parts of the lineup rather than one scorer carrying the offense.
Avalanche vs. Jets Goalie Matchup
Colorado enters Game 3 of its season with Mackenzie Blackwood and Scott Wedgewood forming its goaltending tandem.
Winnipeg has Stuart Skinner and Clay Stevenson available in net. The Jets have allowed eight goals through three games while getting enough goaltending to win twice.
The bigger challenge for Winnipeg’s goalie will be dealing with the quality of Colorado’s chances when the Avalanche attack gets moving. Colorado can create trouble off the rush, but Winnipeg has enough structure to make those opportunities harder to find. This matchup gets much friendlier for the Jets if they can keep the Avalanche working along the boards instead of attacking open ice.

Colorado’s goalie has the benefit of playing behind a team that has spent plenty of time attacking through two games.
Winnipeg would rather make this a slower, more physical contest. The Jets have shown they can win that kind of game without needing a pile of offense.
That’s the contrast worth watching for anyone doing some early-season betting. Colorado wants speed and space, while Winnipeg wants fewer clean entries and fewer chances off the rush. Whichever team controls that part of the game should make life considerably easier on its goalie.
Colorado Avalanche vs. Winnipeg Jets bottom line: Winnipeg needs to drag Colorado into a structured game, because giving the Avalanche room to skate is asking for a long night.

Avalanche Jets Free Pick: Avalanche -1.5 +137
Here is my Avalanche Jets free pick: Avalanche -1.5 +137.
Colorado at -181 is more money than I want to lay in an October hockey game. My NHL betting system usually caps moneyline favorites around -150, so if I’m backing the Avalanche tonight, I’m moving to the puck line and taking +137.
The bet makes sense because Colorado doesn’t need to control all 60 minutes to cover it. This team can create goals in bunches, and Winnipeg has already played a pair of one-goal games. If the Avalanche get ahead and force the Jets to open things up, that’s the game state I want with -1.5.
I’ll trade the expensive moneyline for +137 and make Colorado earn the second goal.
There’s also the empty-net angle. A one-goal Colorado lead late isn’t necessarily bad news because Winnipeg has to pull its goalie and give the Avalanche another path to the cover.
Of course, that sounds wonderful until you’re staring at an empty net while three different Avalanche players somehow miss it. I’ve donated enough blood pressure to NHL puck lines to know how this works.
Still, I’m not laying -181 when I can get paid +137 for asking a team with this much firepower to win by two. Give me the better return, give me the empty-net insurance policy, and I’ll take my chances with Colorado doing the rest.
I’m on Avalanche -1.5.
