St. Louis reached the pinnacle of professional hockey a season ago. Colorado looks like they have all the tools to do the same in 2019/20.
The Avalanche put their 7-0-1 record on the line when they visit the defending Stanley Cup Champions at the Enterprise Center. The Blues have played 4 home games this year, but have only one outright win to show for it.
The Avs keep knocking down challenge after challenge. Colorado comes into Monday night’s game having gone 3-0-1 so far on a road trip that includes visits to Pittsburgh, Washington, and Tampa Bay.
The Avs’ most recent game was an impressive 6-2 win in Tampa Bay as +179 underdogs on leg two of a back-to-back.
Colorado’s win over Tampa Bay was impressive, especially as they may have found another breakout offensive star in Tyler Jost, who scored 3 goals on 3 shots vs. Andrei Vasilevskiy.
It looks like Colorado will go with Philipp Grubauer in net on Monday. Colorado will be playing their 3rd game in 4 nights in this one, but Grubauer got some rest on Saturday with Pavel Francouz starting vs. Tampa Bay and recording 42 saves.
Grubauer has been solid this year though, he’s the main reason the Avs rank in the top 10 in goals allowed (2.6) despite being last in the league in shots on goal against.
St. Louis Blues
What the Blues will try to find on Monday is a little bit of consistency. This team may be experiencing a championship hangover as they’ve dropped four in a row but are still in 4th in the Central.
St. Louis is in some doldrums on offense right now. They have only broken the 3 goal barrier once in 7 games this season and have been held to 2 goals in three of those contests. St. Louis ranks 21st in SOG.
One thing the Blues can be optimistic for in this matchup is the fact that Colorado does have a weakness in allowing a lot of SOG at 36.5 which is last in the NHL. It’s just that not many of those shots slip through the ‘tender.
The problem with St. Louis not being able to have many explosive offensive nights this year is the fact that they also give up their fair share of goals. The Blues have surrendered at least 4 goals in 4 of their last 5 games.
Jordan Binnington is tasked with stopping the explosive Colorado offense here. He’s faced at least 32 shots in four straight games, and no surprise the Blues are 1-1-2 over that span.
NHL Betting Trends:
- Avalanche are 6-0 last 6 Monday games
- Avalanche are 5-0 last 5 vs. a team with a losing record
- Avalanche are 6-0 last 6 as a favorite of -110 to -150
- Blues are 13-3 last 16 games as an underdog
- Blues are 4-1 last 5 vs. Western Conference
Free St. Louis Blues vs. Colorado Avalanche NHL Prediction:
there is solid value on both teams in this one. Colorado is the better team, but could be starting to get a bit fatigued with 3 games in 4 nights, all on the road. The Avs have some nice momentum going though and the Blues defense is leaking lately.
