There’s not many people giving Chicago a chance in their second-slash-first round series with Vegas. The ‘Hawks still have a lot of their core remaining from a team who has won 3 Stanley Cups in the last decade though.
Make no mistake, Chicago is top-heavy and Vegas is arguably the deepest team in hockey. With all the uncertainties surrounding this postseason however it takes some guts to lay -190 on any team.
Chicago Blackhawks
Chicago barely made the NHL restart but then proved how dangerous they can be with a 3-1 series win over the Oilers. That’s no small feat considering the play-in round was on Edmonton’s home ice.
The Blackhawks may not have the depth of Vegas but Chicago sure has some stars capable of taking over this series. Besides Patrick Kane, Jonathan Toews, Duncan Keith, etc., the ‘Hawks got their series with Edmonton off to the right start behind 5 points from Dominik Kubalik.
As good as their offense has the potential to be, Chicago’s playoff hopes rest with Corey Crawford. The vet started all four games against Edmonton and gave up 15 goals. The Hawks almost win in spite of Crawford.
Vegas Golden Knights
Vegas seems like a lock to move on from this series but Chicago shouldn’t be overlooked. If the ‘Hawks are going to steal one, it could be game 1 before Vegas really understands their situation.
The Golden Knights could be a little shaky on Tuesday especially as they welcome leading scorer Max Pacioretty back to the fold. Pacioretty has been out since July 20th
The Golden Knights are deep in goal, and that includes Robin Lehner who came over from Chicago at the trade deadline. Vegas will still likely go with veteran Marc-Andre Fleury though, Fleury has only played one game since the restart, allowing 4 goals on 17 shots to St. Louis.
