Things definitely got away from Chicago in Tuesday night’s 6-1 loss to the Stars. It wasn’t a great showing for Malcolm Subban in net and was also the second time in as many games the Hawks gave up 6.
Chicago Blackhawks
Chicago’s defense was a huge letdown on Tuesday, getting absolutely pelted with goals in every period from the Stars. Subban stopped just 31 of 37 shots.
The Blackhawks had hoped to get on a bit of a roll now that their 3-game series with Tampa Bay is over. Chicago managed 3 points in three games with the Lightning, but still left a lot on the table.
The Blackhawks lost in OT to Tampa Bay in the first game, won game two, and got off to a 3-0 lead in the series finale before allowing six straight scores to the Lightning. You’d think playing that well against on of the best teams in the league would give the Hawks momentum – but it didn’t.
It’s’ hard to see how Jeremy Colliton can go back to Subban in Thursday’s tilt. It’s tough going on the road, but Subban has also allowed 14 goals in the last three starts. Kevin Lankinen allowed six in his last start though.
Dallas Stars
Dallas really could be ready to get going on a run. The Stars got a late start to the season and are battling from injuries, but this is a team that fought for the Stanley Cup before succumbing to Tampa bay last year.
More than likely though, it’s a temporary flash in the pan in Dallas scoring this many goals over the recent span. Prior to this little three game stretch the Stars were 1-10 in their previous 11.
Chicago has goaltending issues, which is why the early lean is towards a high scoring game and the over -5.5. Dallas is way too overpriced at -145 for a team that is 4-13 over their last 17.
Credit where credit is due, Anton Khubodin was sharp vs. Chicago on Tuesday batting away 21 of 22 shots. Khudobin has now allowed 2 goals or less in four of his last six, giving Dallas an edge on Thursday.
