A lot of people were waiting for Chicago to fall off after their 4-2 start to the year because this is a team that doesn’t have a lot of optimism for the 2022/23 season. As it turns out it wasn’t a long wait, as the Hawks are just 1-3-3 over their last 7.
Chicago is reeling a bit, but the Ducks aren’t exactly intimidating many opponents right now. Anaheim’s 9 points are the second fewest in the league and they’ve lost three of their last four games. i
This game isn’t exactly a Western Conference Finals preview, but oddsmakers have a nice low line on the contest. On paper this Blackhawks vs Anaheim matchup looks like a coin-flipper.
Chicago Blackhawks
The Blackhawks’ offense is in shambles right now with four goals in their last four games. This stretch has caused Chicago to drop to 25th in scoring at 2.8 goals/game and they’re taking the second fewest shots in the NHL at just 25.5 per game.
There’s nothing that ails a struggling offense quite like a visit with the Ducks, who have allowed 4+ goals in 8 of their last 9 games. Anaheim is in fact last in the NHL in goals allowed, SOG, and are the second worst team in the penalty kill.
Chicago did get goaltender Petr Mrazek back on Thursday after he had missed the previous 8 games with a groin injury. He didn’t show any ill effects of rink rust stopping 33 of 35 Kings shots, but he got no help in a 2-1 OT loss.
The Blackhawks have gone 1-3-2 on the road this season, and are 16-35 in their last 51 away from the United Center dating back to last season.
Anaheim Ducks
Anaheim will try to put some home ice to their advantage on Saturday night even though they are just 2-3 at the Honda Center this season. Chicago may come out a bit flat as they head home after wrapping up this three game West Coast road trip, but then again how anxious can a team be going from 80 degree temps to the 30s?
The Ducks did pick up a win over San Jose last Saturday, but they need five goals and OT to do so in a 5-4 victory. Anaheim needs to shore up their defense somehow, because they don’t have the offense to pull off these high scoring wins on a consistent basis.
Anaheim is in an unusual spot here being a favorite for the first time since a season opening 5-4 win over the Kraken. They do have wins in 3 of their last 6 overall (all in OT) and are averaging 5 goals/game in those victories.

Ultimately this one looks like a higher scoring affair. Mrazek might not be back fully and Anaheim has been able to score at times over their past six games. The Ducks defense is also horrible so Chicago can get off their skid here.
