The Blues, at 45 points, sit in 3rd place in the Central Division behind the Chicago Blackhawks and the Minnesota Wild, early in 2017. They will look to close the give point gap between themselves and the Wild, in a favorable matchup against Carolina.
The Carolina Hurricanes sit in third last in the Metro Division with 39 points in 37 games played thus far. While they have a winning record, the playoffs already appear to be a prayer at this point.
Carolina Hurricanes
Carolina has experienced growing pains in recent years, having many first round selections but not having translated to a whole lot of wins during their rebuilding stage.
Jeff Skinner, one of these former high draft selections by the Canes, leads the team with 13 goals and 27 points.
Skinner, along with fellow young forwards, Teuvo Teravainen, Sebastian Aho and Victor Rask, appear to the be the building blocks up front. The four are the top four point producers for Carolina this year. The Canes hope Elias Lindholm can also take another step, as he has just 13 points in 30 games.
The defensive unit has some good young players to build around as well, namely Justin Faulk, who leads the team in defensive scoring with 16 points. Joining Faulk are Noah Hanafin and Jaccob Slavin, who both look like they are future top defenders and are both under 23 years old.

The goaltending gig in Raleigh has once again fallen into the hands of veteran netminder, Cam Ward. Ward has performed well this year, owning a .915 SV% and a 2.28 GAA for the season with two shutouts.
The veteran goalie, who signed a two-year deal in the off-season, is the place holder until top prospect, Alex Nedelijkovic, is ready.
St. Louis Blues
St. Louis sits tenth overall in goals per game this year, boasting a solid three-line forward group that many teams would kill for.
The leader on offense is Vladmir Tarasenko, the young Russian superstar who has netted 18 goals and 41 points in 38 games played, sitting him 4th in point production in the league.
While the likes of Robby Fabbri, Jaden Schwartz, Alex Steen and Pail Stastny haven’t produced big point totals, they form a group that is as deep as any team in the league.
David Perron appears to be happy to be back with the team who drafted him, as he’s collected 10 goals and 10 assists in his 38 games played.

Kevin Shattenkirk leads the blueline in points with 24 points and the pending free agent is setting himself up for a sizable payday this off-season.
In net, Jake Allen has performed just mediocre behind a stout defensive unit. Allen on the year owns a .905 SV% and a 2.62 GAA in his first year as the unquestioned #1 guy in St. Louis.

- St. Louis is 15-3-4 at home
- New Jersey has a total goal differential of minus-3 this year

Free Carolina Hurricanes vs. St. Louis Blues NHL Hockey Prediction:
The ice seems heavily tilted toward the home team in St. Louis, as evidenced by the outstanding 15-3-4 record that the Blues have recorded at the Scottrade Center.
Look for St. Louis to come out strong as they try to close the gap in the Central, while Carolina is essentially just getting their young guys more experience at this point. The Canes have been horrendous on the road and facing the Blues at home is likely to continue that trend.
