The Carolina Hurricanes will travel to New York to face the Rangers for the 3rd time this season. The Rangers have won both meeting thus far.
Carolina Hurricanes
Carolina will come into Tuesday on a good note after picking up a win over the Philadelphia Flyers 5-4 in Overtime. The Hurricanes got out to an early lead before squandering it. Sebastian Aho played hero in overtime though to grab the two points.
Offense
The Hurricanes are a strong team when it comes to their offence, they score the 12th most goals in the league and a big part of that is their shot on goal metrics. Carolina averaged 35 shots on goal per game which currently has them ranked 3rd in the league. On a bit of a surprising note the power play does not do much to help this offence only converting at 21.3% which is only good enough for 17th. The Hurricanes are a well above average team when it comes to face off wins which helps them generate offence quickly.
Defense
Defensively is where the Hurricanes excel, this is one of the most stingy defences in the league. Carolina only gives up 2.5 goals per game which is 2nd best in the NHL, they also give up the least amount of shots per game at only 26. Carolina will also bring the 3rd ranked penalty kill into this game and have been completely shut down of late.
Goaltending
Goaltending is always a question mark when it comes to the Hurricanes, I don’t mean a question mark in how good they are but who so who will actually start… I have seen nothing as of right now predicting a starter so I won’t even try. Just know it doesn’t really matter who starts they always get above average goaltending.
New York Rangers
New York will be coming into Tuesday red hot! Winners of their last 4 games including a sweep of a mini 2 game series with the Penguins and are coming in off of a dominating 7-0 win over the Nashville Predators.
Offense
The Offence of the Rangers are pretty strong, they average 3.36 goals per game which is good enough for 10th best in the NHL. The Rangers put up the 16th most shots in the league with just under 32 per game. The power play is also a big part of the Rangers success this season as they convert 23.4% of the time. Over the 4 game winning streak they have scored 22 goals!
Defense
The Ranger’s defense has been very good this season, giving up only 2.7 goals per game and keeping oppositions shots to a minimum at only 29 per game. The one stat the Rangers struggle with is the penalty kill, only killing off 79 percent of penalties which is only good enough for 17th in the league. The positive is that the Rangers are one of the most discipline teams in the NHL. The rangers only average 7 penalty mins per game, which keeps that struggling penalty kill on the bench and not forced to kill off a ton of penalties.
Goaltending
Igor Shesterkin is one of the best goalies in the league and nothing suggests he wont get the call in this one as the Rangers look to win 5 in a row. He has a 32-11-7 record with one shutout. Igor will be going for his 6 straight win if in-fact he does get the call on Tuesday.

Free Carolina Hurricanes vs. New York Rangers NHL Prediction
For me this is a tough one to pick a side, both teams are playing goof right now and both teams are fighting for playoff seeding so I don’t want to pick a side in this one, instead I will lean to the under in a game where goals should be at a premium with both teams having top notch goaltending.
