Carolina Hurricanes
The Hurricanes are suddenly in a nice spot to be in after stealing Game 1 at the Barclays Center. Both goaltenders played excellent in the opener but it was a Jordan Staal goal 4:04 into OT that gave the Hurricanes the 1-0 edge.
Game 1 was very evenly matched which is why the Hurricanes have value at +120 on Sunday. SOG were 32-32 in favor of Carolina but the Hurricanes did commit 10 penalties to 8 for the islanders.

Petr Mrazek led the way for Carolina in net with his second SO of the playoffs. Mrazek has had an up and down playoffs, the down being most notably a 0-6 loss to Washington in Game 5. He comes into the rematch with New York riding high with confidence however.
New York Islanders
It’s no doubt that the Islanders will need to find their offense on Sunday. New York may have been a bit rusty after 10 days off following a sweep of the Penguins.
Even so, New York scored 14 goals in the four wins over Pittsburgh but couldn’t muster a single score against the Carolina defense. The Islanders were 26-13-2 at home during the regular season so the scoring could be there in Game 2.

Robin Lehner was definitely good enough to get the W in Game 1, stopping 31 of 32 shots. Overall Lehner has been fairly dominant in this postseason, allowing just 1 goal in the last 4 after allowing 3 to Pittsburgh in the opener.
As a result of Lehner being in the zone in net, four straight Islanders games have gone ‘under.’ Oddsmakers have lowered the total to 5 for Game 2.
NHL Betting Trends:
- Hurricanes are 35-17 last 52 overall
- Hurricanes are 1-6 last 7 as a road underdog
- Islanders are 4-1 last 5 home games
- Islanders are 38-18 last 56 overall
- Hurricanes are 4-7 last 11 H2H meetings
Free Carolina Hurricanes vs. New York Islanders NHL Prediction:
The ‘under’ would be the easy play the way Game 1 went down.
4* Free NHL Playoff Betting Pick: Over 5
Lehner and Mrazek were both great in net but there’s a sense New York could crack this one open to even up the series.
