The Carolina Hurricanes are looking to make up some major ground on second-seeded New York Islanders in the Metropolitan Division with another win over the Colorado Avalanche on Monday night. They certainly came out focused in their last matchup versus the Nashville Predators in what was a high-scoring and exciting game throughout.
The Colorado Avalanche, on the other hand, continues to struggle on the season as they are losers of three of their last five games, overall. However, they were able to pick up a much-needed victory over the lowly Buffalo Sabres in their last time out in what was their fourth shutout on the season.
Carolina Hurricanes
The Hurricanes continue to click on all cylinders on both sides of the ice as they have picked up wins in six of their last eight games entering this contest. And despite enduring a two-game stretch which they allowed 12 goals, total, Carolina has since recovered by winning In 5-3 fashion over the Nashville Predators, as stated.
Hurricane sprinted out to a 2-0 lead early in the first while also taking a 2-1 lead in entering the third. They then exploded for three goals during this time spearheaded by Justin Williams, who scored on a power-play goal, along with Sebastian Aho who sealed the victory with an insurance goal late in the period.

Hurricanes ended the game with 32 shots on the night compared to 34 for Nashville. However, Petr Mrazek was outstanding in the net for the Hurricanes as he ended the game with 29 saves on the night for a .912 save percentage in the victory.
Carolina will now play its second of three games on their current road trip, as they have won four of their last five games away from home recently. They certainly did not have a great outing versus the Avalanche in their last meeting as they fell by a 3-1 score despite being solid favorites.
Colorado Avalanche
Point / shot leader in Nathan MacKinnon scored his 35th goal on the season as he posted an unassisted goal in the first. On the other hand, Mikko Rantanen scored his 30th goal on the season in this contest as well in power play fashion at the 10:13 mark of the second period.

4* Free NHL Betting Pick: Colorado -118
This will certainly be a highly competitive game from start to finish, as I happen to believe that the Colorado Avalanche will pull out a slim victory in this contest over the
Hurricanes. And while Carolina will certainly be looking for a bit of payback for their loss earlier in the season to the Avalanche, It will be fair to state that the Avalanche have won three straight games at the Pepsi Center. With that being said, look for Colorado to weather the storm throughout while picking up some late goals in what will being a 3-2 victory in the end.
NHL Free Score Prediction: Hurricanes 2 – Avalanche 3
Despite their ups and downs on this season, Colorado enters this matchup winners of six of their last 10 games. McKinnon has been putting in some productive minutes for the Avalanche during this time along with Rantanen. Look for Colorado to have just enough within the offensive tank in which to blow by a defensive-minded hurricane squad in the end.
