The Carolina Hurricanes are looking to right a wrong and split the season series with the Desert Dogs. In their lone match-up coming in November, the Yotes picked up a rare road victory in the form of a 4-0 shutout.
Carolina Hurricanes
Coming off consecutive losses for the first time since January 10th, Carolina dropped games to Anaheim and Vegas in the form of 3-2 defeats. Prior to this mini skid, the Hurricanes had won five straight and outscored the opposition 21-6 during that stretch.
They have an 18-5-6 record away from Raleigh and are sporting a recent road record of 5-1.
Offense
Presently, they have the third-best offence since January 1st after averaging 3.74 goals scored per game to go with over 35 shots per game during that stretch. During their recent five-game win streak, they posted four or more goals on the board in four of those wins.
They have a balanced offence with three 20 goal scorers and three players who have hit the 50 point mark.
Defense
Overall, they have been solid on the back end this season after averaging just a shade over 2.50 goals against per game. That puts them in the second-best slot in that category and in terms of their penalty kill, they’ve improved over the year. Since January 1st, they sit with the 7th best conversion percentage when a man short.
They also acquired D-man Shayne Gostisbehere from the Coyotes on Wednesday which gives them an additional puck moving blueliner to take some of the pressure off of Brent Burns. Gostisbehere has 31 points in 52 games with the Coyotes this season.
Goaltending
In net, they Canes have a tight tandem with the duo of Frederik Andersen and Antti Raanta who both have goals against averages of 2.50 and below in addition to save percentages above .900. Andersen has gotten the last two starts and was fed a loss in each game after allowing two goals against. He has struggled recently when facing 20 or fewer shots, which has happened in each of his last three losses.
Arizona Coyotes
The Coyotes are 2-4 through their most recent six games but have been somewhat decent at home this season. At Mullet Arena, they’re over .500 with a 14-10-2 tally after going 2-2 in their most recent home stand.
They’re coming off a 4-2 loss in Dallas this past Wednesday with Connor Ingram in net.
Offense
Arizona has struggled on offence all season but more recently they are second last in the league after averaging just 2.38 goals scored per game since January 1st. What’s more is that they have averaged just 27.0 shots per game on net during that span which ranks dead last in the NHL.
They also sent forward Nick Bjugstad and his 13 goals to the Edmonton Oilers on Thursday but he hasn’t played the last two games for the Yotes after being sat out while they were shopping him.
Defense
Their defence has been rough to watch this season, averaging nearly 3.50 goals against per game this year which ranks inside the bottom ten in the league.
As previously mentioned, they shipped off Gostisbehere already and then traded Jakob Chychrun to the Ottawa Senators which leaves their backend without much depth.
Add to the fact that they’re sporting the 26th worst penalty kill in the league and they had better pray for some hefty goaltending.
Goaltending
Karel Vejmelka has received the bulk of the starts for the Yotes and in February he finished with a 4.18 GAA and a .885 save percentage through 6 starts last month.

Free Carolina Hurricanes vs. Arizona Coyotes NHL Prediction
The Coyotes have seen 25 of their 31 losses come by at least a two-goal margin this season and with their two top defencemen traded away, I don’t like their chances here. The trade deadline prior to this game and we could see them ship out even more as they are in full rebuild mode and are looking to the future.
The Hurricanes on the other hand are in the thick of things in terms of securing the top spot in the Metropolitan division. They have the New Jersey Devils breathing down their necks and just a single point away from overtaking Carolina for top spot.
The Canes have more to lose and have the better team. Expect them to cover the puck line and get back to their winning ways.
