St. Louis looks like about as much of a sure thing as you can get for Thursday’s night matchup with Buffalo. The Blues are in such a good spot to win this one that the -205 ML actually seems low.
The reason to like the defending champs in this one is easy – Buffalo is horrible on the road and the Blues are great on their own ice. St. Louis has lost just 4 games in regulation at the Enterprise Center this season.

Not only do the Sabres struggle on the road in general, winning only about 20% of their road games the last two years – Buffalo has been horrible in St. Louis. The Blues have taken 11 of the last 12 at home vs. the Sabres.
Buffalo Sabres
It would behoove Buffalo to get on a roll sooner rather than later. The Sabes’ have 45 points on the season which is well off the pace for Boston in the Atlantic (61). Buffalo is also 5 points off the pace for what would be a wild card berth.
The Sabres have gone 2 for 2020 though in starting out the new year with consecutive wins over Florida and Edmonton. Buffalo lost 7 of 8 to close out the 2019 calendar year.
The thing about Buffalo’s two straight wins is that they both came at home. The Sabres have lost 5 straight and 9 of 10 road games.
The Sabres always have a chance, even at +170, if Jack Eichel can get going. The star C has 11 points in the last 10 games but he’ll have to be even better against a staunch St. Louis defense. The total in this one is just 5.5.
St. Louis Blues
The Blues have rebounded well from a recent 0-3 road trip against quality competition in Arizona, Colorado, and Vegas. St. Louis returned home and ended up holding off San Jose 3-2 on Tuesday.
One major advantage Buffalo does have in this matchup is the fact they haven’t played since Saturday. Are the Sabres going to come out of the gates rested – or does a 4-night layoff actually leave them rusty?
Of course a big edge that St. Louis has on Thursday is having Jordan Binnington in net. He has struggled at Winnipeg and at Colorado lately, but has held 4 of the last 5 home opponents to 2 goals or less.
Speaking of home games, the Blues have been nearly untouchable at the Enterprise Center, going 14-4-3 on their own ice this season. A Stanley Cup hangover has not been evident so far for the Blues, who sit in 1st in the Central.

The Blues will probably drop one of their next four for sheer disinterest, but it won’t happen Thursday.
