Oddsmakers are expecting a low scoring game when the Sabres and Stars meet up on Thursday. The combination of Dallas’ low scoring offense and great goaltending as of late make the under 5.5 a solid lean here.
The side favors Dallas – by a large margin at -208. The thing is, that doesn’t look like that bad of a price to pay for a Stars team that has 7 of their last 8 and in mostly dominating fashion.

The Sabes have won two in a row as well though, Their second set of consecutive wins since the calendar turned to 2020. Buffalo also has a very low scoring offense though which looks to be outmanned by the Stars D.
Buffalo Sabres
Buffalo is trying to stay afloat in their division, but that’s hard to do when looking up at Tampa Bay and Boston. The Sabres are just 5 points out of the wild card but have Dallas and Nashville on the road in the next two.
Don’t count Ralph Krueger’s team out just yet though. They’ve won two in a row – one which doesn’t count vs. Detroit but also a 4-2 win over Vegas on Tuesday to cash as +148 underdogs.
The 9 goals scored by the Sabres the last two games are impressive, but will probably be hard to duplicate Thursday vs. Dallas’ #1 ranked defense in goals allowed. The Stars have held 8 straight opponents to 2 goals or less.
With not a whole lot of offensive support coming, the pressure falls on Buffalo goaltender Carter Hutton, the likely starter. Buffalo could very easily go with Linus Ullmark however as Hutton has a personal 10-game losing streak.
Dallas Stars
Dallas isn’t really in a look ahead spot with ‘only’ Minnesota coming up on Saturday so they should be focused on getting the W in this one. T
he Stars need every win to keep pace with 1st place St. Louis who has a 9 point lead in the Central and have won 7 of their last 10. Dallas has 7 wins over their last 10 games as well though.
The Stars haven’t netted a ton of goals lately with just 9 in their last 4 games. As a testament to their defense though, Dallas has won 3 games of those games.
Another great thing about Dallas is that they have depth in net. Anton Khubodin and Ben Bishop have combined to allow 2 goals or less in 8 straight Stars games.
