With both teams on the second night of a back-to-back, Boston heads to Washington, D.C. to take on the Capitals.
Washington, one of the strongest teams in the league, will look to defend its home ice and take care of the Atlantic Division Bruins.
Boston Bruins
While Boston is in the playoff hunt as of now, the Bruins are 3rd in the weak Atlantic Division and need to stay on track in order to ensure a playoff birth.
The Bruins aren’t a particularly great team on either side of the ice, but have their strong points. The offense averages just 2.51 goals per game, and with 131 on the season, Boston ranks in the bottom third of the league in that category.

Defensively, the Bruins have been slightly better and the quality has kept them in games against better offenses. Boston has given up 135 on the season, or about 2.60 per game.
Part of the quality defense has come from the All-Star caliber goaltending of Tuukka Rask. He has been a solid force in goal all year and has a 24-12-4 record and a 2.15 GAA.
For Boston to get the win against Washington, the defense and Rask’s goaltending have to be nearly perfect. Otherwise, the Capitals could easily overwhelm the offensive zone and score at will.
Washington Capitals
The Capitals are fantastic to watch on both sides of the ice. The 3rd ranked offense in the league has been great all year, scoring 160 goals through 49 games. On defense, the Capitals sit atop the league in goals against, giving up just 106 all year.
What has worked for the Capitals has been the quality of play from all four lines. The Capitals have seven players with more than 10 goals this season, including captain Alex Ovechkin.
Ovi has 23 goals and 22 assists this year, including two goals and four assists over his previous five games. He is money on the power play, especially from his signature area inside the left circle.

If the Capitals get on the power play, look for him to get off a bunch of shots.
Right wing T.J. Oshie is questionable for Wednesday’s game, as he is away due to a personal matter. This could be a hit to the Capitals if he doesn’t play.
Oshie has been having a great year and has 18 goals and 14 assists in his 40 games. He also has four goals and three assists over his previous five games.
NHL Betting Trends:
- Boston is 0-5 ATS in the last five games
