Boston may not have begun the restart the best, but they are in a great spot now. The Bruins are meeting the Lightning a round earlier than expected, but got the semifinals off to a great start with a 3-2 win in game one.
The Lightning will look to bounce back in a series that seems like it’s headed for at least six games. The Lightning struggled at times last round with Columbus though and may be a bit off of their regular season pace.
Boston Bruins
Game one ended 3-2 in favor of the Bruins on Sunday but it really wasn’t that close. Boston scored in every period to take a 3-0 lead before the Lightning added two goals after the contest was already decided.
Boston got some nice production from their big guns in the series opener. Charlie Coyle, David Pastrnak, and Brad Marchand all scored for the Bruins against Tampa Bay’s #8 rated defense in goals against.
Jaroslav Halak was the wild card for Boston in this series after Tuukka Rask opted out of the playoff hub. So far, so good for the Bruins goaltender though as he 35 of 37 shots vs. Tampa’s #1 ranked scoring offense.
Tampa Bay Lightning
The Lightning need to regroup – and fast. Tampa Bay beat Columbus 4-1 in the quarterfinals, but every Lightning win was decided by one goal.
Tampa Bay’s offense has also now been held to two goals or less in 3 of the last 5 games in the postseason. Viktor Hedman had both goals for the Lightning while Nikita Kucherov was 0-8 on SOG.
Andrei Vasilevskiy could also be better for the Lightning on Tuesday. The all-star goaltender gave up 3 goals on 31 shots and has now allowed 3+ goals in 3 of the last 5 games this postseason.
