Boston had a rough restart going 0-3 in the seeding round which is why they get the Lightning right now. This matchup was nearly inevitable, so they might as well get it out of the way.
Boston Bruins
Boston was the best team in hockey during the regular season, already amassing 100 points with 12 games to go before the pandemic struck.
The Bruins scored just 4 goals total in the 3-game seeding round but started to find their ways vs. the Hurricanes with 3+ goals in 4 of 5. Boston did have a top 10 scoring offense during the season with 3.2 goals / game.
The Bruins know where their bread is buttered and that’s on the defensive end. Boston led the NHL in 2.4 goals against / game. The team has had some work to do with goaltender Tuukka Rask leaving the bubble to be with his young daughter.
Tampa Bay Lightning
Can Tampa Bay’s offense get to Jaroslav Halak in net for the Bruins? Halak is a real hit-or-miss goaltender, giving up 7 goals on 48 shots in two starts, but then 2 goals on 54 shots in his other two.
The Lightning were tested by a pesky Columbus team in round one with all four Tampa Bay wins coming by one goal and two in OT. Boston getting +1.5 goals costs -280 though.
