Atlantic Division opponents Ottawa and Boston square off on Thursday night in Canada’s capital city.
The two teams are in a dead heat for third place in the division with the Sens holding a one point edge on the Bruins.
Things started almost perfectly for the Bruins their last time out. Offseason addition David Backes faced his former team for the first time and opened the scoring for the B’s.
Boston carried that 1-0 lead into the first intermission and held a 2-1 lead midway through the second until the Blues popped a couple of quick goals late in the period and ultimately finished with a 4-2 loss.
Boston doesn’t tend to match up well with teams like the Blues who play a heavy, puck possession game. Thankfully the Bruins will be matched up with a speedy and skilled Sens team that plays much more wide open.
The B’s come into Thursday’s contest riding a bit of inconsistency as they’ve gone 2-2 over their last four games.
More concerning though it that they’ve struggled to find goals and in their last five contests have managed to score just 10 goals.
The Bruins are a defense-first team for certain, but you need to score more than two goals a game in today’s NHL if you’re going to be successful.
On that note of scoring goals, the Senators don’t do much of that either as they are the second lowest scoring team in the Atlantic Division, ahead of just the lowly Buffalo Sabres.
This team should however be riding a nice high coming into this game as they’re coming off a 4-3 win over the Montreal Canadiens…in Montreal.
Putting four goals past the best goalie in the NHL, in a building where before Tuesday night, no one had beat the Habs in regulation, should have the Sens feeling pretty good about themselves.
Better still, the team got big production from some guys who had gone missing of late.
The line of Mike Hoffman, Mark Stone and Derek Brassard was dominant and combined for eight points on the night.
If that big line starts to click, this team will go on a run, as they’re quite tough in their own end and Craig Anderson has been great in goal.

Free Boston Bruins vs. Ottawa Senators NHL Hockey Prediction:
These teams split the season series a year ago, with the home team winning every game. Another trend was goal parades in Boston where the Bruins won 7-3 and 6-1, while in Ottawa the games were closely contest with Ottawa taking wins by counts of 3-1 and 2-1 in OT.
4* Free NHL Betting Pick: Under 5.5
Just going off trends and the fact that these are two low-scoring teams, this one looks to be destined for a tight checking, low-scoring affair. I like the Sens to win, but the Under just looks like the safer bet here.
NHL Free Score Prediction: Ottawa 3 – Boston 2
This one might be bound for OT. Picking the tie here isn’t a bad choice if that option is available, but stick with the under.
