As Boston travels to Edmonton on Thursday night, each team is jockeying for playoff seeding in their respective conferences.
The Bruins sit 4 points up on the Maple Leafs for the final divisional playoff spot in the Atlantic, but the Leafs have one game in hand.
As for the Oilers, they are in the middle of a dogfight in the Pacific division with the Ducks and Flames.
The Bruins are starting to play like a team full of superstars, most likely because they are a team full of superstars.
Regardless, the Bruins have had to recover from a mid-February coaching change to get back to where they are in the Atlantic.
This will be the second of a back-to-back pair of Alberta games for the Bruins, as they will be in Calgary the night before to take on the surging Calgary Flames.
On Monday night, in the first of a 3 game Western Canadian swing, the Bruins beat Vancouver 6-3, in large part due to a 3rd period hat trick from one Brad Marchand.
After the game against Edmonton, the Bruins have the weekend off before the first of three straight games against divisional opponents. The Bruins take on Toronto on Monday, the Sens on Tuesday night, and then host the Tampa Bay Lightning on Thursday night.
Brad Marchand’s 3 goals against Vancouver have him tied for the league lead with Crosby. If the much maligned Marchand can manage to not get suspended again this year, he stands a good chance at winning the Art Ross trophy.
The #2, #3, and #4 spots in the Pacific division couldn’t be any tighter. Currently the Oilers sit in a wild card spot, outside the Pacific division’s playoff seeds.
As it stands now the Oilers would play the San Jose Sharks in the first round.
The Oilers have 13 games remaining and 81 points. Both the Ducks and the Flames have 82 points with 13 games remaining. Can’t get much closer than that. The Flames have won 10 straight however, and may never lose again the way they are playing.
Even a wild card spot would be fine to the Edmonton Oilers fan base.
This is a team that hasn’t qualified for postseason play since 2006, when they went all the way to the Stanley Cup finals after being the 8th seed in the Western Conference.
This is the year everything has come together for the Oilers just as their fans thought it would. For years having a roster full of young star-studded prospects failed to deliver a postseason caliber hockey team, but not this year, this year they are living up to their potential.
Still however, you can bet they would much rather a divisional playoff matchup against their Albertan rival, the Calgary Flames, over a matchup with the Sharks, Wild or Blackhawks.

Free Boston Bruins vs. Edmonton Oilers NHL Hockey Prediction:
The Bruins are going to be walking into a madhouse in Edmonton, as the fans their gear-up for their first playoff run in over a decade.
4* Free NHL Betting Pick: Oilers -113.
Not that the Bruins aren’t used to that kind of atmosphere however, but the Oilers are playing the most important hockey of their lives while the Bruins are trying to make up for a season that has been below-par for their standards.
