The Edmonton Oilers are a source of great frustration and sadness for me right now. Not only am I 0-2 in their last 2 both fading and picking them, but they are also by childhood team and they are managed by a man named Ken Holland.
I won’t dive too deeply into the trade stuff here because that’s not what we do, but it does actually affect not only tomorrow’s game (especially) but also this next stretch of games against playoff teams and contenders.
The Oilers just allowed 6 to one of the worst offensive teams in the NHL the Columbus Blue Jackets who in their previous 5 games scored a combined 11 goals.
You certainly can’t win them all and even great teams are afforded bad losses on off nights. But this just wasn’t the case yesterday morning.
As I have harped on all season, the Oilers defending is absolutely pathetic and too much of the blame falls on Jack Campbell in my honest opinion. He is certainly not great and Skinner will have the net from here on out but the defensive zone coverage of this team is unacceptable for an NHL team.
The Bruins on the other hand are a completely different story. They are 45-8-5, wow.
And they got there by being incredibly deep, get unbelievable goaltending, and play stellar D which I will break down here.
So without further ado, let’s take a gander at this tale of the tape.
Boston Bruins
I haven’t covered the Bruins a lot this season but there is absolutely no question they have been the best team in the league wire to wire. This team isn’t a fave of mine to bet a lot because their lines are frequently a little too rich for my taste, but they have a mere 8 regulation losses on the year, so take their 60 minute lines.
Offense
This team’s offence is right behind the Oilers in goals per game with 3.74, the production they are getting from Pastrnak is on a crazy level. He won’t win the Hart because of McDavid but he could certainly be the runner up.

Defense
Defensively is really where this squad shines in my opinion which is nuts to think of since they are a top offensive dawg too. They are 1st in the league in goals allowed per game and 1st on the penalty kill.
They also minimize shots per game and even more importantly not many of those come from high danger.
What is one area of concern in this matchup is the amount of penalties they take. Their penalty kill is stellar as I highlighted but if you continuously give this Oilers unit chances they will bury you, that’s one thing they absolutely have going for them it just might be the only thing however.
Goaltending
Ullmark is probably going to win the Vezina, and he just scored a goal against Vancouver. Not much else to add here.
Edmonton Oilers
The Oilers just flat out have to play better defence if they want to beat this Bruins squad.
Offense
There are no question marks surrounding this group up front with the exception of the usual suspects like whether or not #13 and #56 really have what it takes to get things going when it counts.
But it’s the best offence in the league and for good reason.
Defense
Nightmare.
Goaltending
Fever Dream.

Free Edmonton Oilers vs. Boston Bruins NHL Prediction
Bruins are just too much for the Oilers defence to handle and I cannot in my right mind pick the Oilers as dogs here in such a tight line. If they were a much longer and profitable shot I’d maybe consider a small unit just because of the McDavid factor but I like the faves here.
Gimme the Bruins.
