After a game five that saw an explosion of offense and the Boston Bruins taking a 3-2 series lead at home, game six and the series shift back to Columbus’ Nationwide Arena. The Blue Jackets face elimination for the first time in these playoffs and they’ll need to have a fantastic game in front of their home fans in order to stay alive.

In games four and five of this series, the Boston Bruins found ways to score on Columbus and Sergei Bobrovsky. The Bruins have eight goals over the past two games, including four goals in the game five victory.

What’s worked so well for Boston in the past couple of games? For one, David Pastrnak has come alive in this series. He has three goals in the past two games and scored twice on seven shot in game five. Those goals included a game-clinching goal with just under 90 seconds left in the game.

His buddy Brad Marchand has also been playing great hockey, and looked fantastic in game five. He had a goal and two assists.

Overall, Boston continued to push for shots on goal, tallying 36 in the last game. Finally, the team was able to really tire out Sergei Bobrovsky, who stopped just 32 of those shots. The Bruins found ways to score at full strength in game five.

Columbus Blue Jackets

Columbus has looked panicked defensively in the past two games, giving up eight total goals. Sergei Bobrovsky has come back down to earth and has looked downright human. That’s what happens when a defense allows 82 shots on goal over games four and five. There’s only so much that the star goaltender can do.

With Columbus struggling to keep Boston out of Bobrovsky’s net, the Blue Jackets will have to have better a better game six offensively. Sure, Columbus got the same number of shots (36) on goal in game five, but the team just came up short on some big opportunities in the third period. CBJ has to capitalize on its scoring opportunities, because Boston surely has in the past two games.

Artemi Panarin continued to be a big contributor in game five, despite not scoring a goal. He had an assist and two shots on goal, but he really has to find a way to light the lamp in game six. When he scores, CBJ’s chances of winning increase considerably.
