This Wednesday’s tilt will take place in Manitoba between two teams that sit amongst the bottom of the standings in the NHL.
There is a lot to like about this Winnipeg team, who have vastly underperformed this season and have pundits calling for coach Paul Maurice’s head.
In Arizona, it seems to be more of the same this season as the team, under new GM John Chayka, continues to look to stockpile towards the future and has some nice prospect help knocking on the door soon.
Arizona Coyotes
The Coyotes sit second last in the NHL this season with just 32 points, ahead of only the lowly Colorado Avalanche.
The Coyotes, however, are in the midst of their rebuild and are aware that there window for contention has not yet arrived.
It’s almost better for the Coyotes to completely tank this season and coup more young assets and picks going forward as the stockpiling shall continue.

Veteran captain, Shane Doan, has already stated that he would be willing to accept a trade from the only franchise he’s known.
Add fellow veteran forward, Martin Hanzal, who is another excellent gritty two-way player and is somehow still just 29-years old. Hanzal would be a nice depth add as a 3rd line center for a contending team.
There is a nice core to build around, namely Oliver Ekman-Larsson, who is an established star defenseman and at 25, just entering his prime years.
Current roster players Max Domi, Tobias Rieder, Anthony Duclair, Christian Dvorak and Anthony DeAngelo are all in their early 20’s and will be part of a core along with top prospects Dylan Strome, Clayton Keller, and Nick Merkley.
Mike Smith is the steady veteran presence in net, and has performed well behind a porous team in front of him this season. Smith
owns a .918 SV% and a 2.84 GAA on the season, and could be another player who the Coyotes look at moving at the deadline.
Winnipeg Jets
The Jets finished amongst the bottom of the league last season, which netted them a young superstar with the #2 overall pick in Patrik Laine.
It appears to be more of the same for the team this season, although with the roster currently assembled they appear to be underachieving and may be in need of a coaching change.
The core group of Mark Scheifele, Laine, Nikolaj Ehlers, Blake Wheeler, Dustin Byfuglien, Bryan Little and Jacob Trouba would be highly coveted by any other franchise.

They are a solid base to build upon, especially when you include the likes of young prospects Nic Petan, Josh Morrissey, Marko Dano, Joel Armia and Kyle Connor.
The team has scored at about league average, sitting 15th overall in goals per game at a mark of 2.7 on the year.
Defending their own net has been the issue, as they currently sit 26th in both goals against, at 3.1, and on the penalty kill, at just a 77.5% efficiency rate.
Jacob Trouba is an interesting name to watch, as he held out until November as an RFA but the club relented in moving the young defender and ultimately got him inked to a two-year show me deal.

If the relationship is still tumultuous, he would be a major bargaining chip nearing the deadline.
The Jets seem to be convinced that Connor Hellebuyck, a former 5th round selection, is their answer in net.
While he had a strong season a year ago, after a big rise in his prospect status leading up to his NHL debut, he has not replicated this year.

Yes, the Jets’ defense hasn’t been spectacular by any means, but Hellebuyck has just a .907 SV% and a 2.82 GAA on the year.
Top prospect, Eric Comrie, could supplant him as starter in the coming years should this continue.
NHL Betting Trends:
- The Coyotes rank 29th in both in goals per game (2.0) and goals against (3.2)
- Arizona has just two players with a point total of 20 or greater
- Arizona is 5-13-4 on the road this year
- Mark Scheifele is 11th in the league in points with 42.
- Winnipeg has a minus-16 goal differential on the season
- Winnipeg is 11-9-1 at the MTS Centre this year
Free Arizona Coyotes vs Winnipeg Jets NHL Hockey Prediction:
While neither team has been very good this year, the Jets are a much better team at this point of their rebuild. The talent the Jets’ possess up front greatly out-matches that of the Coyotes.
Neither team is particularly good on the defensive side, but with the Coyotes weak offense I see the Jets being able to shut them down for the most part.
4* Free NHL Betting Pick: Winnipeg -1.5 Check back later for a free ATS, ML or O/U pick.
Arizona only has five wins on the road this season, and the MTS Centre is a hostile environment for a visiting team, so I like the Jets to cover against the Coyotes.
