Sunday, November 11th brings you a cross conference matchup as the Arizona Coyotes visit the nation’s capital to take on the Washington Capitals on Veterans Day at the Capital One Arena in DC. Both teams are coming off of one goal losses. The Coyotes were in action Saturday night, but those results weren’t available yet.
Arizona Coyotes
As if this road trip wasn’t going to be hard enough for Arizona, they now have to do it without the backbone of this team, Antti Raanta, who suffered a lower body injury and was placed on the IR. Hunter Miska was called up from the Tucson Roadrunners to replace Raanta.

Brad Richardson and Clayton Keller lead the team in goal scoring with 5 each, while Captain Coyote Oliver Ekman-Larsson leads the team with 8 assists. Hunter Miska might make his NHL debut on Sunday, depending of how Darcy Kuemper does Saturday night against the Penguins.
The Coyotes are all sorts of banged up at the moment. Besides Raanta, Christian Dvorak is also on the IR. Josh Archibald, Jakob Chychrun and Nicholas Merkley are out indefinitely, and Alex Goligoski is listed as questionable.
Washington Capitals
This is the final game of a five-game home stand for the Capitals, a stretch where the team has gone 2-2 up to this game. Three out of those four games were decided by one goal.

It’s not hard to believe that Alex Ovechkin is leading this team in goal scoring with 12, the veteran doesn’t seem to be losing a step, that’s for sure. Nicklas Backstrom is the teams assist leader with 15. Braden Holtby is expected to get the start in net, he comes in with a 5-4-2 record with a 3.26 GAA and a save percentage of .903.
The Caps have a few injuries of their own to deal with in this game, Brooks Orpik is out indefinitely, and John Carlson is listed as questionable for Sunday’s game. RW Tom Wilson is currently serving a 20 game suspension, he will be available to return to action on November, 22nd.

Free Arizona Coyotes vs. Washington Capitals NHL Prediction:
Everybody loves a feel good story, and what better way to claim your first victory in net than winning your NHL debut against the reigning Stanley Cup Champions. We don’t even know if Miska is going to start this game or not, but still, it would be quite a story.
Fantasies aside, the smart pick would be taking the Capitals to win this game on home ice. And with all the close games these two teams have played recently, I would take the Coyotes to cover the spread.
