The Sharks are in pretty much the same boat as their rivals this Friday although they look slightly better prepared going into next season based on the roster they have right now.
Arizona Coyotes
The Coyotes actually looked like they had a chance at a playoff berth earlier this year, but their recent 3 and 12 run has lead to them being firmly on the outside looking in, as the Coyotes management continues to look forward to next season.
The defense and goalkeeping have both been issues that will need to be addressed this coming Summer, as this team has allowed opponents to score 3.11 goals per game and with their offense they have simply not been able to keep up at times.
One guy who has been a great story so far this year for the Coyotes has been the play of Jakob Chychrun who is leading the team in goals with 18 despite being a defender and has also been a good distributor of the puck adding 21 assists.
Darcy Kuemper should be between the pipes for the Coyotes for this game, as he is currently listed as the projected starter and he has not been bad, but has not stolen many games for Arizona this year with a save percentage around .900 and a GAA of 2.58.
San Jose Sharks
The Sharks on the other hand I did have higher hopes for, as they have some nice pieces on this team like Evander Kane and Brent Burns who you would not expect to be on a team who has been as bad as the Sharks have been this year.
The one place that the Sharks need to improve upon is their overall depth, as their top lines are quite strong, but once you get into the 3rd and 4th line the talent really drops off, so it will be interesting to see if the Sharks make any moves this off-season to address that need.
Look out for Josef Korenar who is already the confirmed starter for the Sharks, and it is tough to know just how good he is, as he has had some good saves and had some decent games, but has struggled a bit with consistency coming into this game with a .902 save percentage and a goals against over 3.
