The year 2020 is signaling a shift in the league’s hockey powerhouses. The Colorado Avalanche appear to be again on the ascendance.

Not many people expected the Coyotes to defeat the Colorado Avalanche in a best-of-seven series.
That said, the Coyotes have two key objectives: Keep the Avs’ skaters in front of them and make sure they have enough manpower in position to contain the Avs when they get scoring position.
The Coyotes’ incautious puck management and general undisciplined play sabotaged these objectives, eventually resulting in goals.
Offensively, Arizona needs to ugly it up and try to force Colorado to defend the forecheck and cycle.
Unfortunately for the Coyotes, the Avs have very mobile defensemen, which will make trying to retrieve the puck or force turnovers against them difficult.
Colorado Avalanche
Colorado is clearly the better team and it’s obvious any way you evaluate it. This series is a No. 2 seed against a No. 11 seed. The Avalanche has some of the best depth in the league
At 5-on-5, the Avalanche have outshot the Coyotes by 55 shots. The Colorado stars are unfettered, and rush the net at will, as we saw in the Game 4 7-1 slaughter that chased Coyotes goaltender, Darcy Kuemper from the net.
