Oddsmakers like the Jets in Thursday night’s Ducks vs Winnipeg matchup, setting the home team as a -200 or higher favorite for the third time in seven games this month. The one game that really got away on the Ducks’ home stand was a 3-2 loss to Chicago when Anaheim was a -144 favorite, the highest price they’d had all season. Now Anaheim goes on the road where they are just 2-6-1 on the season and have lost 36 of the last 52 dating back to last season.
John Gibson looked good in net on Tuesday really for the first time in nearly a month. Gibson had allowed 15 goals in three previous starts before stopping 31 of 33 Detroit shots to pick up just his third win of the season.
Winnipeg Jets
The Jets haven’t played a ton of hockey over the last two weeks so they should be rested for Thursday’s game. Winnipeg beat Dallas 5-1 on November 8th, had three nights off before a back-to-back in Calgary and Seattle, and then has had the last three nights off again as Anaheim comes to town.
The Jets can win the Ducks vs Winnipeg game with their defense alone. They have a top 10 team in goals against, shots against, and penalty kill while Anaheim is only averaging 2.7 goals/game on the season.
Connor Hellebuyck should be back in net after a the extended days off as he tries to bounce back from allowing three goals on 35 shots to the Flames on Saturday. Calgary also fires the third most shots in the NHL though so Hellebuyck should face less of an onslaught against Anaheim.
