The Ducks are #32 on most peoples power rankings right now. They are firmly entrenched in the tank for Bedard conversation for good reason.
I would love to see Connor Bedard go to Anaheim for a number of reasons but mainly because the Ducks have drafted well in recent years and he would push them into the echelon of contention alone.
They’re expected to be sellers at the deadline but it will definitely be tough sledding. Names like Cam Fowler and John Gibson will inevitably get thrown around but both guys have no trade clauses and won’t be easy to move at their current production to cap hit ratios.
They are an abysmal 2-7-1 in their last ten games and to give you an idea of their scoring ability, the over has hit only twice in that same stretch.
The Wild on the other hand should be in contention this season and after a rocky start to their year are starting to look like a real squad again, as they should. Outside of Kaprizov this team doesn’t bolster any elite talent but they have solid depth at every position and in my evaluation have underperformed until now.
Let’s dig into this early puck drop.
Anaheim Ducks
For all the talent they do have they rank 31st in goals for per game at 2.48, which is only slightly behind the Wild’s 2.9 but it’s still very bad. Which is a surprising number honestly, had I not looked this stat up I would have guessed it to be higher.
Their shooting percentage also ranks 31st at just over 8%, their powerplay is 30th at a mere 15.2%, and they sit 27th in the league in the faceoff dot.
If you thought that was bad, wait till you hear their ranks on defence.
32nd in goals allowed per game at 4.13
32nd in shots on goal allowed with 37.2
31st in penalty minutes taken per game with 13.1!
and 32nd on the penalty kill at an atrocious 66.3%.
There is not much going right for the Ducks right now and it appears that it will likely stay that way. 5 months of meaningless hockey coming right up.
Now, please don’t take this as a dig Ducks fans, I think this is exactly what you want. Drysdale is done for the year but he’s a stud, you’ve got Terry, Zegras, Mactavish. Imagine adding Bedard to that core?
And trading Fowler and Gibson for some assets this year to load up the cupboard even more? The future will be long and bright for this group.
Minnesota Wild
The Wild are starting to crank it up right now as they are 6-3-1 in their last 10. Putting more offence together and everybody’s favorite goalie Marc Andre Fleury is starting to play like we know he can after a relatively shaky start.
Kaprizov is an absolute stud and carries this team’s attack no doubt but they still have some serious guys in their lineup. I covered their matchup against the Oil where I guessed wrong of course and saw how they beat you with a presence.
They are big, heavy, and lean on you with that and the addition of soft hands and playmaking ability. With the exception of Zuccarello this is a big team who play a hard nose game.
And speaking of Zuc, he’s still got it. Threads the needle and is driving play well still in his advanced age.

Don’t matter though, still sticking with my gut. These offences stink.
