The Ducks visiting Ball Arena to face the Avalanche seems like a game that could get ugly. Anaheim has lost three straight, dwelling in the basement of the West with just 22 points.
Anaheim Ducks
It’s not hard to see why Anaheim is struggling this year, as their offense is absolutely putrid. The Ducks are the second worst team in goals scored and SOG, while having the 3rd worst power play team.
Those struggles have been evident recently too, as Anaheim has scored just 2 goals total during their current 3-game slide.
Having one of the worst offenses in the league getting set to take on one of the best usually doesn’t bode well. The Avs still have talent, but they’re not putting the puck in the net as much, with 3.0 goals/game being fairly average.
That doesn’t mean the Avs aren’t capable, and they do apply pressure while leading the league with 34.1 SOG per game. The Ducks defense is improving, but it’s not there yet.
Colorado Avalanche
Last year’s Colorado team was comfortable winning games 5-4, but they’ve been more defensive oriented this year. The Avs have scored 2 goals or less in 3 of the last 4, but also allowed 1 or less in 3 of 4 as well.
With Colorado’s defense stepping up and Anaheim’s offense kind of in the tank an under 5.5 bet isn’t looking bad for Tuesday night’s tilt. Believe it or not the Avs have a top 5 defense in goals, SOG, and penallty kill.
Philipp Grubauer has to take a lot of credit for that defensive turnaround for the Avs, as the goaltender has allowed 2 goals or less in 5 of the last 6. Each of those games has gone ‘under’ the total.
Anaheim hasn’t had that same success, as John Gibson has allowed 5 goals and 3+ in the last 10. The Ducks turned to Ryan Miller on Saturday, but that was on the back to back as well. Miller allowed a goal in facing just 3 shots in relief vs. the Sharks on Friday.
NHL Betting Trends:

- Ducks are 33-16 last 49 head to head meetings
Free Anaheim Ducks vs. Colorado Avalanche NHL Prediction:
It’s crazy but there are reasons to like the Ducks here. They’ve somehow won 33 of the last 49 meetings, and tallied a split on March 5th and 6th, both in OT and also in Colorado.
These two teams also split at home in Anaheim back in late January. The 2-3 game the Ducks lost in that previous series was also in OT. 3 of 4 games between these two this year haven’t been decided in regulation.
4* Free NHL Betting Pick: Ducks +1.5 (-110)
The only thing that worries you here is Gibson in net for Anaheim. He’s the reason the ‘under’ isn’t a lock either.
