The Ottawa Senators welcome the return of goaltender Andrew Hammond after a groin injury kept him out the first two weeks of the season.

The New Jersey Devils are hoping they can finally get their stagnant offense going against a tough goalie on the road.
New Jersey
The Devils are a great defensive team, but they also struggle to put pucks in the net.
Through 6 games this year, the Devils are averaging just 1.83 goals per game which is 25th-best in the NHL.
It’s also a tough task to score goals when your team is averaging less than 25 shots per game, which is what the Devils are doing right now.

However, they are keeping those games close, due in large part to their goaltending. Cory Schneider has been solid since becoming the full-time starter in New Jersey last season.
This season, Schneider has a goals against average of 1.71 and a save percentage of .937.
He’s proven to be solid between the pipes, but he isn’t getting much help from his offense which has only scored 11 goals in 6 games.
Ottawa
The Senators were the hottest team down the stretch last season thanks to Andrew “The Hamburglar” Hammond who went 20-1-2 as the starter.
Hammond will make his season debut as he looks to stymie a New Jersey that is struggling to score.

The Senators have also had their difficulties scoring this season.
Ottawa has netted 19 goals in 6 games, but 12 of those came in just 2 games.
The Senators are allowing 34 shots on goal per game which ranks dead last in the league. Fortunately for them, they’re facing a team that ranks near the bottom in shooting.
Hammond stole the show for Ottawa last season as the team squeaked its way into the postseason.
Even if Hammond comes out shaky in his debut, New Jersey isn’t a team that has shown the ability to score plenty of goals.
NHL Hockey Handicapping Trends
The Over is 3-6-1 the last 10 times these teams played each other.
Devils were 13-28 on road last season.
Senators were 23-18 at home last season
Senators are 2-0 this season as a favorite.
The Over is 1-4-1 in the Devils’ 6 games this season.
Free NHL Hockey Prediction
New Jersey has a tendency to play in a lot of close, low-scoring affairs, and this one shouldn’t be any different.
With Hammond scheduled to make his season debut for the Senators, this game will be a defensive battle where goals are few and far between.
4* Free NHL Betting Pick: Under 5
Only once this season have the Devils played a game that totaled more than 5 goals. With the exception of 2 offensive outbursts, the Senators have also had a tough time scoring.
This could easily be a 2-1 final.
