Villanova Wildcats
Marquette, and not Villanova, appeared on the NCAA’s list of the top 16 teams in the country, as far as seeding for the upcoming NCAA Tournament goes.
Now, Villanova did lose to Marquette by a point after winning its first 10 Big East games. The ‘Cats still have a one-game lead over the Golden Eagles with a rematch coming, in which it will host. ‘Nova did bounce back after the loss in Milwaukee last weekend with a home thrashing of Providence this week.

This will be a potentially tricky game, though. The Wildcats won the first matchup by just five points at home and this game, though officially listed as a neutral site game, will be played in New York City at Madison Square Garden, which will be mostly St. John’s fans.
St. John’s Red Storm
With the exception of a 20-point clobbering of Marquette way back at the start of conference play, St. John’s has been a dud in Big East play.
The Johnnies have defeated Creighton twice and just got Butler in a narrow game at home but 6–6 in a relatively weak Big East doesn’t bode well for postseason seeding, even if the Red Storm gets into the Big Dance.

It would be the first NCAA Tournament appearance for junior Shamorie Ponds, who has the talent to light up the field for at least a couple games. Joe Lunardi has St. John’s as a 10-seed in the Southern Region this week, in his latest projected field.
A win on Sunday would go a long way to Chris Mullin’s first NCAA Tournament appearance as a Head Coach.
