Big East play continues as the top team in the Big East, Villanova, heads to Rhode Island to take on the 6th place Providence Friars.

Villanova Wildcats

Your reigning National Champs, the Villanova Wildcats are having another very impressive season. Coming off a tough comeback victory of #12 Virginia, the Wildcats should have a much easier game here against a less talented Friars team.

The Wildcats overwhelm teams with their solid offense and ability to shoot from behind the arc. Senior Josh Hart has been wonderful this season.

He’s averaging 18.7 points and 6.5 rebounds per game. Hart is also shooting nearly 53% from the field and 78% from the free throw line.

Sophomore Jalen Brunson is having a great year and played extremely well in that comeback against Virginia. He’s averaging 14.2 points per game on 54.5% shooting.

And one can’t forget about the man who sunk the game winner to win the National Championship, Kris Jenkins. He’s playing well and shooting over 40% from behind the arc.

He’s averaging 13.5 points per game for the Wildcats.

With all this offensive talent, it’s going to be tough for the Providence Friars to keep up.

Providence Friars

In the Big East, the Friars sit at 4-6, putting them 6th in the conference. Providence gutted out a close win over Marquette in its last game, but lost the two previous contests, including a 10-point loss to Villanova.

Offensively, the Friars leave a lot to be desired. Averaging just 70.3 points per game, Providence ranks 256th in the nation in that category. The team is extremely inconsistent on offense, despite having some weapons.

Junior guard Kyron Cartwright is starting to become a consistent offensive force. After his breakout performance against Butler back on New Year’s Day where he scored 26 points, he had a couple worrisome games but has caught fire recently.

Over his last five games, he has 20, 16, 12, 16, and 18. He’ll need to stay hot against a very good Villanova defense.

Forward Rodney Bullock has been great in his sophomore season. He’s averaging 17.3 points per game on 45% shooting and has been consistent all year.

He’ll need to continue his solid year and give Providence some quality offense.

Villanova is just too good and this game shouldn’t be too tough for them. However, it is a conference game and you never know how those can go. But as long as guys like Josh Hart and Jalen Brunson play well, Villanova will get the W.
