Villanova is making moves. It beat Butler on Tuesday, 76–61, for its fifth win in a row.
Five guys had at least a dozen points, including all three of its starting forwards: Jermaine Samuels, Saddiq Bey and Jeremiah Robinson-Earl.
After years playing lineups with three or even four guards, Head Coach Jay Wright is utilizing his team’s strengths this season with a forward-heavy lineup.
Of course, it helps that they are versatile forwards that all have some range, especially Bey, who is shooting over forty-six percent on nearly five three-point attempts per game.
Bey, along with junior Collin Gillespie, who played a little bit for the National Championship team two years ago, arrived at Villanova relatively unheralded but lead this year’s team in scoring at about fifteen points per game each.
The next seven guys are a mix of three juniors, two sophomores and two freshmen, all of whom were ranked in the top 100 by the Recruitment Service Consensus Index (RSCI). At the start of the season, none of them knew where they stood. That is starting to change.
Before the Butler win, ‘Nova took down Connecticut, DePaul, Georgetown and Creighton in Omaha. It was its first road victory in the Big East but also just its second opportunity.
And a good opportunity it will be. But Providence will be hungry after losing two close road games in the last week at Creighton and Seton Hall.
The Friars are still 4–3 in the conference with home wins over Georgetown and St. John’s and a couple of impressive road victories at Marquette and DePaul. Butler did get the best of it in Providence.
David Duke was a top-50 guy in last year’s RSCI rankings and Alpha Diallo is a four-year senior starter who, together, average nearly twenty-seven points and over thirteen rebounds and six assists.
But any duo would need help against Villanova. Providence’s next four guys in the rotation are upperclassmen, either juniors or seniors. The next guy is another top-50 from the class of 2018. Then another senior and the No. 61 freshman in this year’s class.
Providence goes nine deep and would give any team at least a little test at its place. This should be a good one.

Free Villanova Wildcats vs. Providence Friars NCAAB Prediction: it goes down to the final two minutes.
Villanova is associated with high-scoring games but it can defend a little bit too. So can Providence for that matter.
Both teams give up, on average, just about sixty-six points per game. This game will be defined by its defense. If one team hits seventy, it will probably win.
