Vanderbilt Commodores
After dropping to Missouri 85-82 last time out, the path only gets tougher for Vandy when they hit the road to face off with one of the best teams in the nation.
Over the years, the Vols have been a tough team for them to take down and it seems very likely that trend will continue this season.
The Commodores know the importance of this game and how talented their opponent is, but they just do not have the personnel in terms of talent that matches up to Tennessee.
If they were to pull off the massive upset, their production on the defensive side of the floor will have to be outstanding. If the game were to get high scoring, I would not give them much of a chance.
On the other hand, if they are able to limit the Vols and make it more of a defensive battle, I could see it being a closer matchup. Still, going on the road and earning this win just does not seem likely.
The Schedule
At 8-7, Vanderbilt has certainly not played a killer schedule yet, but their future games will be much tricker than what they have seen so far.
After their Tuesday night tilt, they have games with Kentucky, Texas, LSU, and many more tough opponents. Even though the season is still fairly young, they are going to need to pull off some victories against better opponents if they wish to make it past the regular season.
In their loss to Mizzou, Liam Robbins put up 16 points and 7 boards. With him leading the team in many key statistical categories, I really feel he is going to have to have a stand-out performance if his squad is going to compete.
Regardless of the outcome of this matchup, Vanderbilt can use this game as a way to get battle-tested for the remainder of the season. They will see firsthand what it is like to take on a team that is as talented and well-coached as the Vols are and what adjustments will be needed in the future if they want to compete at the highest level.
Tennessee Volunteers
Tennessee has started off their season about as well as they could have imagined and they will look to keep up their winning ways on Tuesday.
With a record of 13-2, it is clear this team is one of the best in the SEC and in the country. So far, they look like a complete team that is poised to do something special in March.
Aside from an early slip-up against Colorado and a close loss against Arizona, this team has taken care of everyone else. As the season gets deeper, I am definitely curious to see how they perform against some of the better teams in the conference.
Rick Barnes’ squad absolutely dismantled South Carolina on Saturday 85-42. They got an early lead and never looked back. Both the offense and defense played at a high level against an opponent that was just overmatched.
As you would expect in a game that was that one-sided, lots of different players stepped up for them on offense. Olivier Nkhamhoua led the way with 21 points and 10 rebounds while 3 other players reached double figures.
Hard To Repeat
It will be hard to repeat that exact success when they take on their in-state rival, but they should certainly be able to take care of business at home against a team they are better than.
Still, their opponent is a worthy one here and I am sure Rick Barnes will have his team prepared as if it was against any other team. Playing down to their competition is just not something this team has been about in 2022-2023 and I do not think that changes here.
Even if they do not have the same kind of offensive production here, something I do feel they can keep up is their strong defense. When this team has really been on their game this season, they simply do not allow a ton of points and they have a great chance to keep that up against Vandy.

My biggest concern for Vandy is their ability to score consistently here. I do not expect a ton from their offense but do feel the defense can at least keep them in it.
