After a flopping down the stretch of the Big East tournament, the Wildcats had to settle for a 2 seed. They’ll look to fend off UNC Asheville in the Round of 64 Friday afternoon.
Asheville had a solid run in the Big South tourney to solidify their fate and will now look to carry their momentum over here against Villanova.
UNC Asheville Bulldogs
The Bulldogs went into the Big South title game as the underdogs when they took on Winthrop, a team that has a lot of NCAA Tourney experience.
Asheville used a stellar performance to clinch their first title and tourney appearance since 2012. That year, the Bulldogs nearly made quite the scene and history. They took Syracuse to the brink as a 16 need, but eventually allowed the Orange to come back and secure a win late. It would have marked the first time a 16 seed defeated a 1 seed.
Look for Dwayne Sutton, a freshman, to be the key for the Bulldogs here. He came up clutch against top seeded Winthrop in the Big South Championship game as he put in careers highs in points (25) and rebounds (18).

Villanova Wildcats
The Wildcats were poised for a 1 seed in this tournament and all they needed to do was knock off Seton Hall in the Big East title game.
However, things didn’t go according to plan as the Pirates got an And 1 with just seconds to go to take the lead from Nova and hold on.
Villanova will look to end a trend of not making it out of the opening weekend. It’s been that way since 2009 as they haven’t been able to string together back to back wins in the tourney.
Josh Hart will be the key here. Hart, who was named to the First Team All Big East, is the best shooter this team has. However, he’ll need Kris Jenkins and Ryan Arcidiacono to step up as they didn’t do that in the title game.
Jenkins and Arcidiacono struggled against the Pirates, shooting just 2 of 11 from the field while totaling just 5 points. Both of them will need to pick their games up if this team hopes to make it past this weekend.
