Texas Longhorns – Team overview/schedule
In a season that has featured some controversy, Texas just continues to play at a high level and show they are one of the best teams in the nation.
Entering this road matchup with the Red Raiders, the Longhorns are ranked #5 in the nation and have a record of 20-5.
Texas currently has a conference record of 9-3 which is the best in the Big 12. Teams that are just behind them in conference wins are Baylor and Kansas.
This squad did a good job of bouncing back on Saturday with a 94-60 thrashing of West Virginia after they had dropped to Kansas earlier in the week.
There are certainly no easy games in this conference, but Monday evening is a very good chance for them to keep up that level of play against a team that just has not played well this season.
Texas Tech and Texas met back on January 14th and it was the Longhorns that picked up the close 72-70 victory. Rodney Terry’s team is currently a 3.5-point road favorite.
Impact Players/Stats
On a team that clearly does not have issues with talent, it has been Marcus Carr who has really stood out as the best player and leader of this ball club.
Not only is Carr leading the team in several categories such as points per game, total points, minutes per game, etc., but he has also played in all 25 games. It is one thing to be talented and it is another to be available throughout the course of a long season.
Aside from Carr, there are three other players that are averaging double-digit points per game- – Sir’Jabari Rice, Timmy Allen, and Tyrese Hunter.
In their last win, there certainly was no shortage of scoring, as four players ended up scoring in double figures. In only 17 minutes played, it was Rice that led the way with 24 points. Carr and Allen also combined for 30 points.
Texas is scoring 80 points a game and they are shooting just under 48% from the field. Their free throws made per game are just under 15.

Simply put, it has not been a good season for Texas Tech and there are not many reasons to believe that it will get much better for them as the season goes on.
Although not great, the overall record of 13-12 is not what stands out to me for them. However, their 2-10 conference record really tells you all you need to know about what kind of team they have been in 2022-2023.
No matter who the team is, you ultimately get judged by how well you do in your conference play and that is especially true for a juggernaut like the Big 12. When they have faced the best of the best, more times than not they have not gotten the job done which is concerning for a program like this.
In a season that has not featured a ton of positivity, they were able to pick up a nice win over #12 Kansas State on Saturday by a score of 71-63.
After an impressive victory over a quality opponent, they will have to do more of the same if they wish to take down a Longhorns team that is clicking on all cylinders.
The Red Raiders were really able to play solid defense against K-State, as they held them to 35.2% from the field. Being able to hold the Longhorns to that number will be tricky, but there has to be an emphasis on defense and not letting the game get out of control.

Just like Texas, the Red Raiders have plenty of players that can score the ball, as four guys are averaging double figures.
Kevin Obanor is the leading scorer with just over 15 points per game and his field goal % is just below 50.
As seen by their record, this squad has just been way too up-and-down this season. The consistency has not been where they would like it to be and it has really cost them.
The lack of consistency has been seen in both their offense and defense. There have been times when they are scoring plenty of points and not allowing all that many and there have been times where just the opposite has been true.

I have some questions about how Texas Tech is going to consistently get stops on defense. It could end up being a long night for them in that department.
As mentioned earlier, Texas has lots of guys that can really pick apart the opposing defense. Even if one of them is off their game, there are many other options they can go to for buckets.
This is a spot where I see the away team building their lead in the second half and being a bit too much for their rival to handle.
