Tennessee Volunteers
Tennessee deserves the ranking it has but it hasn’t had to go to Kentucky; it hasn’t had to go to LSU; it hasn’t even had to go to Mississippi or Auburn, yet.
All four of those road matchups are coming in the next three weeks, starting with Kentucky on Saturday.

All season, Tennessee hasn’t necessarily been bigger down low, but it’s been stronger, tougher, more aggressive, and just better.
Kansas had Udoka Azubuike and Dedric Lawson in the only game UT has lost this season and this matchup could play as close to that as Rick Barnes’ club has seen — and will see, in the SEC — this season. PJ Washington isn’t Azubuike but he’s pretty darn good. Reid Travis will work as hard as either Grant Williams or Admiral Schofield.
Kentucky Wildcats
If those Kentucky bigs can do just that — match Tennessee’s bigs in the paint — it becomes a battle of the perimeter, which Kentucky can win. I don’t feel like it should win; I don’t feel like it shouldn’t win, either. All over the court, this is simply two well-matched teams. I’d be shocked if it wasn’t close.

One injury key could be Yves Pons, of Tennessee. He’s another one of these undersized Tennessee forwards (6’6″) that makes up for it with muscle. He got whacked against Florida two games back and left the game. He wore a mask this week against South Carolina but only played three minutes.
I’d expect Pons to have a bigger role in this game and even if he doesn’t, Tennessee has enough to absorb the loss. However, this feels like a game that will make every body count and, on the road, the Vols still need everything they can get.
