TCU nipped Kansas yesterday. A lot of people thought Kansas was primed for an early exit from the B12 Tournament but I don’t know how many would have put their money on TCU to get that win.
Iowa State scored 90+ points in their win over Oklahoma State. It was a nice win and if their offense is clicking they are going to be a tough team to get rid of…especially with Kansas eliminated.
TCU Horned Frogs
TCU was a nice story early on but they have faded of late. They definitely made a big statement on Thursday by taking down the Jayhawks. I think it has to be enough but here is another shot.
The great thing for the Horned Frogs is that the performance, although very good, was not other worldly meaning they could do it again. It might even be easier against a lesser team.
Key to the win was the backcourt play of Kenrich Williams and Alex Robinson. They were efficient in scoring a combined 31 points with 12 assists and just 5 turnovers. Their combined 9 steals was amazing.
Vladimir Brodziansky is an emerging inside player. He only scored 11 against Kansas but could do some damage in this one as the Cyclones do not offer much resistance inside.
Iowa State Cyclones
There was a lot of noise about the winner of Cyclones vs. Cowboys being a great sleeper and that notion got a big boost thanks to the TCU win. Hopefully ISU is not overconfident heading into this one.
Monte Morris was one assist short of a triple double in the win over OSU. All season long he has proven he is more than just a guy who is careful with the rock and if he is peaking they are in very good shape.
The other standout from Thursday was Deonte Burton. The dude put up 17 and 10 and is one of those guys who just has a nose for the ball when it comes off the rim. They need him to be big in this one.
ISU was very efficient on offense against Oklahoma State…but they played good defense too. They can probably be a little more lax on both fronts and still get the win in this one.
