Both teams had shaky endings to their seasons, but that both earned at large bids for their stellar play in the middle of the season.
The 10th seeded Syracuse Orange and 7th seeded Dayton Flyers get set for battle in the round of 64.
Dayton had a streak during the regular season where they rattled off 9 straight wins and it looked like they would not only run away with the A-10, but also grab a very solid seed in the tournament.
The Flyers followed that 9 game winning streak up with a mediocre 4-4 record and stumbled into the A-10 tourney. They fell to a very good St. Joes team in the semis, that went onto win the conference.
The Dayton offense is led by 4 different players who average double figures. Charles Cooke and Dyshawn Pierre headline that group as they average 28.7 points combined.
The Flyers also have plenty of shooters from the outside. Cooke, Pierre and Scoochie Smith all headline a list that isn’t afraid to hoist from anywhere and were three of the best shooters from behind the arc in the A-10.
Dayton took down Syracuse back in the 2014 NCAA Tournament in a low scoring, defensive struggle at 55-53.
The Orange, like their counterparts, stumble into the tourney.
Syracuse lost in 5 of their last 6 games and that was kind of the theme behind this season. The Orange had winning streaks of 5 or more on two different occasions. They also had two losing streaks of at least three games.
This team was a rollercoaster ride as they either built off wins, or really let losses snowball into something more.
The Orange has the weapons and the will to win, but their inability to play 40 minutes has hurt them this season. Take the ACC tourney for example. In the first round the Orange led early against Pittsburgh, but saw the Panthers come roaring back and take a lead of at least 15 in the 2nd half. The Orange never showed quit despite 5 minutes on the clock as they battled back to tie it, only to miss a 3 at the end.
Look for senior Michael Gbinije, freshman Malachi Richardson and freshman Tyler Lydon to really play a major role here. These three always play more than 30 minutes per game and will need to produce a lot here against Dayton.

Free Syracuse Orange vs. Dayton Flyers CBB Prediction:
With both teams lacking confidence, they at least luck out and get an opponent who is struggling like them.
This has the feel of the 2014 matchup. Neither team will look to force shots as they will use the shot clock and look for the best shot and try to wear the defenses down.
4* Free CBB Betting Pick: Dayton -1
The Flyers have a better defensive strategy behind them and that will come in clutch down the stretch as this is close throughout.
