The Richmond Spiders will host the St. Bonaventure’s Bonnies for some Friday night hoops from the Robins Center.
St. Bonaventure may enter this one as favorites to win on the road.
St. Bonaventure Bonnies
St. Bonaventure jumped out to a 8-3 start during non-conference play, picking up victories over Marquette, Boise State and Clemson along the way. They’ve traded each of their last six games, struggling with inconsistency while flirting with promise along the way. SBU wasn’t able to take down Davidson at home last time out despite a late rally, losing 81-76.
Osun Osunniyi anchors a veteran, senior filled starting unit, that has played together for more than three seasons. The 6’10 big had his best game of the season against Duquense, scoring 21 points and grabbing a season-high 17 boards. Osunniyi is up to 10.4 ppg and 7.7 rpg on the season.
Jaren Holmes, Kyle Lofton, and Dominick Welch are names we need to remember with March Madness approaching. There aren’t many teams in the country that can match the production the Bonnies get from their backcourt.
Holmes might just be one of the best players in the country. The 6’5 senior is extremely versatile, and has the ability to score from all three levels. He double-doubled in wins over Marquette and Boise State, and he posts strong lines of 15.1 ppg, 5.7 rpg, and 3.9 apg.
Lofton has a string on the offense, leading the team in assists (5.5). The 6’3 guard can also fill it up, as he scores 14.2 ppg.
Welch is the true definition 3-and-D, as over 70% of his shots have been threes. The 6’5 guard has hit three or more threes in each of the past three road games, and he’s averaging 11.6 ppg and 5.6 rpg.
Jalen Adaway has elevated his game since coming over from Miami-Ohio. The 6’5 guard double-doubled against UConn, and he’s leading SBU in rebounding at 7.5 rpg, while leading the team in scoring with 15.5 ppg.
Richmond Spiders
Richmond ended the non-conference slate on a six-game winning streak, that included a road win over N.C. State and a victory over Toledo at the Robins Center. The Spiders have won five of their last seven games, and they were able to defeat Duquense on the road last time out, 74-57.
The Spiders scored 73.5 ppg, and carry one of the most experienced groups in the country.
Tyler Burton is the youngest member of the starting lineup as a junior and he leads the team in scoring at 16.2 ppg. The 6’7 forward double-doubled in the win over Duquense, and he scored a season-high 29 points in a win over in-state rival ODU.
Grant Golden was granted a sixth season by the NCAA, and he remains a hassle on the low block for opposing teams. The captain is averaging 14.9 ppg, while grabbing 6.3 rpg and dishing out a respectable 3.1 apg.
Jacob Gilyard and Nick Sherod both returned for their fifth season’s and they’ve given UR strong guard play once again. Gilyard has been a menace defensively, swiping four or more steals seven times this season. He’s posting a full line of 12.7 ppg, 3.4 rpg, a team-leading 6.2 apg, and an A10-leading 3.4 spg.
Nathan Cayo also came back for his fifth year in RIchmond, and the 6’7 forward scored 18 points in the win over La Salle.
CBB Betting Trends:

Free St. Bonaventure Bonnies vs. Richmond Spiders NCAAB Prediction: VCU to Win
This game puts Richmond in a really appealing home underdog spot, but the Bonnies may come into Virginia’s capital and outmuscle the Spiders.
4* Free CBB Betting Pick: St. Bonaventure ML (-150)
I hate turning my back on my hometown in a nice plus spot, but St. Bonaventure have that it factor. They have size, guard play, and defend at a high rate. Richmond is definitely going to keep things close here, and if the margin opens a lofty, give their spread a look. If the books open close, as they should for one of the marquee matchups on a light Friday, trust St. Bonaventure’s star power on the road here.
Take St. Bonaventure’s ML cautiously here..
