Simply put, Providence has been excellent this year. Some people might have thought they would be good, but I do not feel anyone had them playing at this high of a level.
The Friars took care of the Creighton Bluejays on Saturday by a score of 72-51. They did just what they needed to do against a team that was short-handed and one that they are better than.
Of course, teams like Connecticut, Villanova, and Xavier get a lot of attention within their conference, but this team also deserves a lot of chatter. They way they have played is no fluke and people should really be taking this team seriously.
AJ Reeves was the leading scorer for them in their last game with 23 points on the night. Also, both Nate Watson and Al Durham had 12 points in the ball game. Overall, it was a well-balanced and effective attack for them on the offensive side of the ball.
Villanova Wildcats
I would say that Villanova has been steady and solid this season. They may not be quite as good as they have been in past years, but at the same time, it is not as if they have been a dud. When all is said and done, it certainly would not shock me if they made a lot of noise in the tournament.
The Wildcats currently have a record of 21-7 and they are 14-4 within their conference. Both of those marks are impressive given the kind of teams that they have had to go up against on a night-to-night basis.
They last played on February 22nd, where they lost to the Connecticut Huskies by a score of 71-69. It would have been nice for them to have been able to knock off the Huskies two times in one season, but I do not see that loss getting to them in the long run.
Their last loss was definitely one in which they could have won, but they just were not able to execute well enough when the game mattered the most. If they do the same thing when they host the Friars, it is going to be hard for them to get the win.

The fact that Nova is the favorite here does not surprise me, but the 9 points are too high for me to lay with them. They might win the game, but I can see this turning out to be closer than some might feel.
