ACC play continues as the Pittsburgh Panthers head to the Dean E. Smith Center to take on the Tar Heels of North Carolina.

The Tar Heels are coming off a bad road loss to the Miami Hurricanes and will look to get back to their winning ways.

Pitt Panthers

Pittsburgh isn’t having much fun in the ACC this year. The Panthers have lost seven of their eight games in the conference, including six in a row.

The main problem for Pitt is the defense. The Panthers allow over 77 points per game, putting them 288th in the nation in that category. Two games ago, Pitt allowed 106 points to Louisville, losing by 55 in that game.

The offense hasn’t been that much better recently. The Panthers have been held to 51 points or less in two of the last five games.

Leading the team is senior forward Michael Young. He’s averaging 20.3 points and 7.1 rebounds per game. He shoots 45% from the field and has been one of the few bright spots for this team.

Guard Cameron Johnson has been decent for Pitt as well. He’s averaging 11.6 points on 43% shooting from the field. Johnson and Young have been solid but two guys can’t win a lot of games by themselves.

North Carolina Tar Heels

Despite a bad loss to Miami, North Carolina is a fantastic basketball team. The Heels sit atop the ACC and are a very strong team offensively.

The team has yet to lose at home and I have a tough time believing that it’ll break that streak against Pitt.

The offense has been brilliant this year. The team averages 88.3 points per game, putting it 7th in the nation.

Junior Justin Jackson has been the team’s best scorer. He’s averaging just under 19 points per game and has been clutch in late game situations.

Senior forward Kennedy Meeks is averaging just shy of a double-double for the Heels. He puts up 12.7 points and grab 9.7 rebounds per game.

Getting the ball inside to Meeks has proved successful for North Carolina and he’s poised to have a great game in the paint against a weak Pitt team.
