The No. 16 ranked Ohio State Buckeyes will be looking to extend its two-game winning streak when it travels to Minneapolis to face off with the Minnesota Golden Gophers on Thursday night. This is the first of two meetings between these Big Ten teams this season.
The Buckeyes were scheduled to face Nebraska last Saturday, but that game was postponed due to COVID-19. Minnesota snapped a four-game losing skid with a 68-65 win over Rutgers its last time out.
Ohio State Buckeyes
Ohio State does not have a ton of impressive wins this season, but it has taken care of business against lesser opponents. The Buckeyes have lost four games, with those contests coming against Xavier, then-No. 23 Florida, Indiana and then-No. 13 Wisconsin.
The Buckeyes easily covered in their last game as 33.5-point favorites in the 83-37 win over the IUPUI Panthers. They were scheduled to face Nebraska last Saturday, but that game was postponed due to COVID-19, this will be their first game in nine days.
They come into this contest ranked No. 15 in KenPom’s adjusted offensive efficiency ratings. Ohio State has relied on its shooting to win games this season, as it is sitting at No. 10 nationally in effective field goal percentage. The Buckeyes are knocking down nearly 40% of their 3-pointers and are also shooting well from the charity stripe.
Forward E.J. Liddell leads Ohio State offensively with 19.4 points and 7.3 rebounds per game. Guard Malaki Branham is also in double figures, scoring 10.0 points.
Guard Jamari Wheeler (undisclosed) and guard Meechie Johnson Jr. (face) are both listed as questionable for this game.
Minnesota Golden Gophers
Minnesota got off to a blazing start this season, winning 10 of its first 11 games. The Golden Gophers’ lone loss during the 2021 portion of its campaign came in a 75-67 setback against then-No. 19 Michigan State. They hit the skids once the calendar flipped to 2022, losing their first four games.
Minnesota lost to Illinois, Indiana and Iowa by double digits, while Michigan State completed its season sweep with a 71-69 win. The Golden Gophers were scheduled to face Penn State last Wednesday, but that game was postponed due to COVID-19.
The Golden Gophers are currently ranked No. 77 in adjusted offensive efficiency. They have done an excellent job of taking care of the ball, listed at No. 14 nationally in turnover rate. Minnesota’s primary issue on that end of the court has been a lack of rebounding, as it is No. 354 in offensive rebounding percentage.
Forward Jamison Battle leads Minnesota with 18.0 points and 6.3 rebounds per game, but he is questionable for this game due to an illness. Guards Payton Willis and E.J. Stephens are both scoring in double figures as well.

- Minnesota is 2-4 SU in their last 6 games.
4* Free Ohio State Buckeyes vs. Minnesota Golden Gophers CBB Betting Pick: Ohio State ATS
Both teams are banged up heading into this game, but I am much more concerned about Minnesota. The Golden Gophers cannot afford to be missing some of their top players, because they do not have much depth.
In fact, they rank No. 355 in bench minutes, so several key players being ruled out would doom them. Furthermore, they have not had much success against Ohio State in the past anyway, losing 14 of their last 19 head to head meetings.
Take the Buckeyes on the road to win and cover in this matchup.
