There has been some rough spots, but Ohio State has had a good season so far. For the most part, I have liked the way they have played and I do not feel they will be an easy out once the tournament starts.
The Buckeyes beat the Indiana Hoosiers on Monday by a score of 80-69. They will look to keep up that strong play when they take on a very talented team in the Illini.
I get that this crew has the win over the Duke Blue Devils on their resume, but I am still not sure that I would put them among the best teams in college basketball. That does not mean that I do not feel they are good, but they still have a ways to go if they wish to be on the same level as someone like Auburn or Arizona.
Malaki Branham was the leading scorer for them in their last game with 27 points and 5 rebounds. EJ Liddell also chipped in 16 points and 7 boards. Overall, it was a good day for the offense, as a lot of different folks stepped up for them on that side of the ball.
Illinois Fighting Illini
I have really liked the way that Illinois has played this year. In a Big Ten that has been very competitive this season, they have done more than just hold their own.
The Illini come into this game with a record of 19-7. Getting win number 20 of the season will certainly be no walk in the park, but it is one they should be able to get if they can play a complete game at their pace.
This group went on the road and beat the Michigan State Spartans on Saturday by a score of 79-74. That was a very impressive win for them over a good team in a tough environment.
Kofi Cockburn once again had a strong game in their last effort, as he went off for 27 points and 9 rebounds. If he keeps on playing at a very high level, then it would not shock me at all if this team goes far in March.
