North Carolina Tar Heels
North Carolina earned its first win of the new year on Saturday, 94–71, over Miami.
Brandon Robinson led the game and set a new career high with twenty-nine points. He’s got seven consecutive double-digits scoring games and three with twenty-plus points. Prior to this season, the senior had two double-digit scoring games in his three-year Carolina career.
Freshman forward Armando Bacot finished with nineteen points, twelve rebounds and seven assists. It was his seventh double-double this season and a new career best for assists. He had six assists in his first thirteen games and now has twenty in his last six.
So give Carolina back-to-back covers (it lost by two at Virginia Tech in the game before). Such is a start. The Heels are still under .500 and just 2–6 in the ACC but out of dead-last place.
Monday marks the start of the sixth week of Cole Anthony’s rehab from a torn meniscus. The initial prognosis was four-to-six weeks recovery. He won’t play in this game because he hasn’t practiced yet but Anthony insists he will return to the floor this season.
NC State Wolfpack
North Carolina State, meanwhile, slid down the standings after taking its fourth conference loss in nine at Georgia Tech, 64–58.
Jose Alvarado scored twenty-six for Georgia Tech and Markell Johnson twenty-one for the ‘Pack, which used just a seven-man rotation with a seventh man, Danny Dixon, who played just seven minutes.
The only reason Dixon played was because Kevin Keatts was missing his seventh and eighth men in the rotation: Pat Andree and Manny Bates.
Both have missed the last two games with an ankle injury and a concussion, respectively. Both will be back eventually but Keatts has gone with such a short rotation without either available that the fear is now of more injuries to the guys who are in there.
A Monday night game won’t help. UNC has been banged up and brittled for a while now but this won’t be an easy victory for the Wolfpack in a year that there was hope it would be.

Free North Carolina Tar Heels vs. North Carolina State Wolfpack NCAAB Prediction: the first to 70.
Defense is going to rule this game, which could finish in the 60s. Neither team will lie down easily but on that same line of thinking neither will put the game away either. It’s going to come down to who gets the best of the last couple possessions.
