The winner gets the chance to face off against the overall number one seed Duke Blue Devils.

North Carolina Central gained their bid to the Dance by winning the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference’s automatic bid when they beat Norfolk State 50-47 on Saturday.
This will be the fourth appearance for the Eagles in the Tournament as a Division I side, however they did win a Division II Championship in 1989 over the SE Missouri State Redhawks. Don’t hold your breath waiting on them to make a run in this years tournament.

The Eagles scored well below their season average of 67.7 points per game in their conference championship win on Saturday, something that they will have to try and get back to if they want to beat the high scoring Bison in this opening game.
Over the span of three games in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Tournament, the Eagles managed to average 63.3 points per game, with a high of 75 against Delaware State. Seeing how they gave up a average of 72.3 points per game all season long, they will need to score more than that 75 points to beat North Dakota State.
North Dakota State Bison
North Dakota State punched their ticket to the Tournament by winning the Summit League Tournament against Omaha. The Bison finished their regular season at 9-7, the third best record in the Summit.
This will be ND State’s fourth appearance in the NCAA Tournament, with their best showing coming in the 2014 edition, when they advanced past the first weekend into the round of 32 by beating the #5 seed Oklahoma Sooners 80-75. They should win here, but that may be as far as they advance once again.

The Bison have a pretty potent offense coming into the Tournament, averaging 73.7 points per game, while being just stingy enough on the defensive side, giving up an average of 67.9 points per game. Both of which are better than NCCU’s season averages.
North Dakota State scored 235 points in their conference tournament, for an average of 78.3 points per game. They lost three out of five games heading into that tournament, so they look to be peaking at the right time, as they hope to at least tie their highest finish in the NCAA Tournament.
